Craft Theory #6: Steve is a Witch!?

It’s obviously been awhile since I posted. In fact, the last thing I posted was a Craft Theory on what time we would (then will) see Marty McFly. He was set for 2015, what does that tell you? Anyway, I was doing my homework on The Crucible by Arthur Miller, and it came to me that perhaps Steve is a witch, and should have been hanged because of it.
Is the Era Correct?
Basically, Miller writes about a gruesome time in the 1600s where many women - and shockingly, men- were hanged due to the belief that they were witches. Now, for those of you who have been on Planet Minecraft long enough, you may remember my blog about when Minecraft takes place. If you don’t, here’s the link. Before you read the next sentence, have a look-see, unless you really don’t care. I said that Minecraft took place during the Black Death of the 1300s. During this time, witches were already a “threat”. Catholicism believed that people should pray, and work, nothing else. Dancing, laughing, and witchcraft were highly controversial topics.The hangings that took place in the timeline of The Crucible were all done between February 1692, and May 1693. However, the United States of America was not even constituted as a country yet. It was still under British rule. Since we don’t actually know where Minecraft takes place, we can assume Europe is a potential place.
The first documented witch trial was that of Alice Kyteler1. Kyteler was a young Irish lass who lived during -get this- the 1300s. If my hypothesis of Minecraft happening during the Black Death is correct, this means that a witch trial is not unlikely. Plus Steve could be a pretty British name. I mean, “Stephen” comes from the Ancient Greek, “Stephanos”2, so the 1300s still works.
Witchcraft in Minecraft
As you should already know, Minecraft has been dealing with potions since Beta 1.9-pre23. At first, Steve was the only thing that could use these potions. Obviously, the animals couldn’t use them, but villagers were introduced in Beta 1.9-pre14. So there were other entities that could potentially manipulate ingredients. Curiously, the only other potion user in Minecraft is...THE WITCH! The Witch wasn’t introduced until version 1.4.2 snapshot 12w38a5. There’s gotta be a reason that witches came into the game. Dinnerbone didn’t just one day wake up and say, “Witches are the best!” Nay!We all [should] know that when a villager is struck by lightning, witches are created. Let me just go fact check that quickly...okay yep6. Normally, if a lightning strikes a human -which a villager kind of is- they die. It’s my belief that Steve actually hexed the villagers in such a way, that they would not die.
