Hello and Welcome to Vs: Creativity Not Included

Last week I put Grand Theft Auto V up against Assassin’s Creed III. No one voted and so I still need a winner. Before you read this blog check out this one: http://www.planetminecraft.com/blog/vs---assassins-creed-iii-vs-grand-theft-auto-v/

Okay now let’s get to business. So far in this series I have put two bad games up together and two new games together. This I am going to put two vintage games together. Keep in mind I can only use games that I’ve played, but that’s a pretty wide variety. Without further ado I’d like to announce that this week’s games are…

Le Matchup

I’ve decided I want to do that for every Vs. now. Anyway, this week’s games are Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. I know I should have done the first game of the Super Mario Bros. series and the first game of the Legend of Zelda series, but this will have to do.

Super Mario Bros.

As you probably know I’m not old enough to have played extensive hours of this game, but I have played it. From what I can remember this game brought me joy in every way. The simplicity was amazing, but somehow it was technical enough that it wasn’t terrible. I loved how you could jump and brutally massacre these weird brown mushrooms that hurt you if you touched them, because their skin is obviously poisonous. At the time I was like seven so I loved every game. Either way from memory and reviews this game changed the world. It brought you so much even for a console that only displayed 8-bit graphics and held barely enough memory to do anything with. In the time of Walk-mans and floppy discs this was da bomb.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

This is a game I actually can relate to. I had gotten an N64 from one of my parent’s friends and one of the games was Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Of course I was disappointed that it didn’t come with Mario Kart 64, but still this was a great game. Before you even started playing the game you loved it. I mean the cartridge was gold for Steve’s sake! After you popped in the game that’s when the magic happened. You are first woken up by a glowing dot that shouts at you constantly…maybe that’s not a good part. Okay take this, you get to hit bushes with a sword and gems rupees come out! What’s not to love about this game?

In all seriousness the story was absolutely great and the gameplay was amazing. I was never bored, and believe me I can get bored from video games fairly easily (mainly because I suck at them). This game could truly be one of the best of all time.

Of course so was Super Mario Bros… what are we going to do? Well that’s for you to decide. Tell me in the comments which game YOU think is better and I will post the results next Friday on the next…VS.
