Geschichte der Amabilis
- Vorgeschichte.:
Die Reederei verlor nach Ende des 1. Weltkrieges aufgrund des Versailler
Vertrages und deren Reparationszahlungen viele Schiffe der Flotte. - Die Reederei durfte nur einen winzigen Teil der Ursprünglichen Flotte
behalten. Da in den Anfängen der Weimarer Republik noch große
Überwindungen bevor standen musste die Schifffahrts-Gesellschaft
für größere Schiffe sparen, zudem noch ein von vor dem Krieg
begonnenes Schiff zu ende gebaut werden musste das die Reederei
durch Verhandlungen mit einem anderen Ausgleich behalten durften.
- Die Eigner der Reederei beschlossen darauf hin Frachtpassagier Schiffe,
sogenannte Kombi-Schiffe zu bauen. Die Energetic Klasse war eine
davon. Energetic bedeutete so gut wie Tatkräftige Klasse.
- 1922|Beginn der Grundbaus zunächst des Schiffes mit dem Namen Habakuk.
Der Name stand von einem Propheten der sich für Gerechtigkeit
einsetzte. - Ein Familienmitglied des Reeders starb und man begann ein zweites Schiff
darauf hin der Person zu widmen und man baute die Amabilis was
stattdessen der Habakuk nun an erster Stelle stehen sollte. Der Name
steht für „die Liebenswerte“. - 1923|Im Frühjahr erfolgte die Fertiggestellung.
- 1923|Im Mai 1923 stieß die Amabilis schon in großer See.
- Erholsame Küsten bei Kuba und Wunderbare Häfen in den Vereinigten Staaten
traf man an. Dazu bewundernswerte Kultur und exotische Früchte. - Ende 1924 hat man das Schiff nochmal mit 3 weitere Rettungsboote ausgestattet da man anfangs davon ausging das es reichen würde.Die Habakuk war ihrer Zeit schneller mit der Ausstattung.
- Das Leben der Amabilis verlief soweit der nächsten vier Jahre ruhig und
ohne große Vorfälle ab. - 1927 geriet das Schiff in zunächst große Schwierigkeiten. Ende August,
driftete das Schiff Nachts in einem zunächst immer größer
werdenden Sturm hinein. Das Schiff geriet dann außer Kontrolle und
das Ruder machte sich selbstständig.
Die Welle schlugen Boote von Bord und beschädigten das Schiff. - Ein Mann der 3Kl.verzichtete auf die Anweisungen der Besatzung in der
Nacht und ging an Deck. Dabei schlugen die Wellen ihn spurlos von
Bord. - Blitze Schlugen an Deck ein. Ein Besatzungsmitglied wurde von einem von
Bord schleuderten Rettungsboot erfasst. Einige Passagiere der 2
Klasse starben bei einem Scheibenbruch in der Musik-Lounge als
Splitter sie trafen. Das Schiff konnte es mit schwerer Kraft in den
Hafen von Philadelphia manövrieren.
Verbleib.: - Nach Kriegsbeginn musste die Amabilis ihre Route ändern. Sie fuhr dann
1, ½ Jahre die Stecke
von Travemünde nach Karlskrona bis sie dann zur Sicherheit nach dem
Überfall auf die Udssr im Hafen von Gotenhafen bis zum ende des
Krieges blieb. - Nach dem Krieg wurde das Schiff an eine Dänische Reederei Verkauft die
das Schiff noch so fünf Jahre fuhren ließ bis es dann 1951
aufgrund stark rostende Stellen und Lecks verschrottet wurde.

beginning of the Weimar Republic there were still great overtakes
ahead, the shipping company had to save for larger ships, in addition
a ship from before the war had to be built to the end, which the
shipping companies were allowed to keep by negotiations with another
compensation
- The owners of the company decided to build cargo passenger ships, so-called
combi-vessels. The Energetic class was one of them. Energetic meant

- 1922| Beginning of the foundation of the ship named Habakkuk, the name of a prophet who
advocated for justice.
- A family member of the shipowner died and they began to dedicate a second ship to the
person and they built the Amabilis instead of which the Habakkuk was
to be the first. - 1923| The Amabilis was completed in the spring.
- 1923| In May 1923, the Amabilis was already at sea.
- Relaxing coasts near Cuba and Wonderful harbours in the United States met. Admirable
culture and exotic fruits.
- At the end of 1924 the ship was equipped again with 3 more lifeboats because at the beginning it was assumed that it would be enough. The Habakuk was faster in its time with the equipment.
- The life of the Amabilis went quietly and without major incidents for the next four
years.
- 1927, the ship was initially in great trouble. At the end of August, the ship drifted in
- at night in an initially increasing storm. The ship then got out of
control and the rudder went on its own. The wave knocked boats off
board and damaged the ship.
A man of the 3Kl. renounced the
instructions of the crew during the night and went to deck. The waves
knocked him offboard without a trace.
- Lightning struck on deck. One crew member was hit by a lifeboat thrown offboard. Some
passengers of the 2Class died in a windshield break in the music
lounge when splinters hit them. The ship was able to maneuver it with
heavy force into the harbor of Philadelphia.
- Stay.:After the start of the war, the Amabilis had to change its route.
She then sailed 1⁄2 years from Travemünde to Karlskrona until she
remained in the port of Gotenhafen for safety after the invasion of
the USSR until the end of the war.
- After the war the ship was sold to a Danish shipping company which kept the ship
sailing for five years until it was scrapped in 1951 due to strong
rust and leaks.
