On the night between March 9th and 10th, the biggest and most destructive airraid in history occurred. Surpassing the number of deaths in the later nuclear bombs dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Imperial Japan faced a firebombing that sent most of Tokyo to ruins.
Called under the codename "Operation Meetinghouse".
After the first A massive fleet of 334 Boeing B-29s Superfortress bombers dropping around 1,665 tons of incendiary bombs, and other halfa million napalm and white phosphorus all over Tokyo, focusing its industrial and most important districts.
"... I suppose if I had lost the war, I would have been tried as a war criminal" - General Curtis LeMay, who conducted an important role in the bombing campaign against Japan in WW2.
