My Latin students and I are rebuilding Ancient Rome as it would have stood during the Age of Augustus. I have noticed an abundance of people reproducing Rome in the 3rd and later centuries. For the Latin classroom, the majority of our texts come from the late Republic and early Empire (under Augustus). We are therefore seeking to fill a real void.
We work in big chunks, and this first one is the Forum Romanum and immediate areas.
All builds are thoroughly researched in primary Latin and Greek texts as well as secondary scholarly books, articles, and journals.
The scale is 1:1 where 1 block = 1 meter. The scale has caused some areas of Rome to be skewed in size, but I did not take away from land upon which sat important archeological finds.
We began in the Fall of 2014 and are slated to finish within the next 4 years, if not sooner.
I also use student builds and my own to produce educational videos which I then upload to my youtube channel.
I am in the process of creating my own texture pack for this project, but it is possible to see other textures in here as placeholders until I can change them. I give credit to the following people/groups for their inspiration and/or contributions.
- Like so many others, Stugace first introduced me not only to a Roman themed texure pack, but Romecraft was my first texture pack. This pack has been the standard upon which I build my own pack. Many of his items and armor remain in his fashioning.
- MolochBaal of Roma Aeterna was the one to prove to me that such an ambitious project like this one could feasibly be done. He has provided great insight in the early terraforming stages. Even his resourcepack has played a huge role in the development of my own as he showed me that with just 64x you can truly achieve some remarkable and realistic textures. Muchisimas gracias.
- Quirinalis has been kind enough to allow us to use her excellent Roman skins and make some unique ones which all contributed to deeper immersion for my students and viewers.
