Prologue: one thousand years ago an obsidian monolith emerged from the depths of the nether, a dark figure stepped out from it, bringing destruction, chaos and death with him. His name is Armok, worshipped by dark cults as the God of Blood, and referred by his underlings as the Spider Overlord. After achieving control over a group of local kingdoms Armok turned his sinister eyes further into the world, as he campaigned to take over as much of the overworld as he could, a foolish power-hungry and ignorant witch who refers to herself as “the Spider Queen” claimed power over the kingdoms, thus forging a staff giving her power over the arthropods she has named herself queen over.

She never knew what was coming, ignoring the prophecy that once the Overlord has achieved dominion over this world a blood moon would rise as he returned to the seat of his power. She merely scoffed at them and called them fools. However tonight was to be a blood moon, on the very day the Overlord had completed his campaign. As the red moon rose up in a starless sky, the world was painted red, blood red. The Spider Queen merely reclined in her silken throne, scepter in hand. In the distance a strange clunking noise was barely audible to the false ruler’s ears. As it became louder and closer the Queen merely assumed that it was another knight being sent by a nearby kingdom in a pathetic attempt to dispose of her. Something however, felt very wrong, why had there been no hiss of warning from her servants? And why did she feel as her doom was approaching? As a sinister figure entered the cave the Spider Queen saw a figure outlined by the blood red light that struck dread into her heart. He was clad in armor forged from obsidian and imbued with blood runes, his blood red eyes flickering with an inner rage. A black cape billowed from his back, on it was a spider painted in blood. A cruel scythe was on his back, made from the same materials as his armor. And to further complete the nightmarish entity, a pair of sinister horns crowned his helmeted head. “Who dares claim power over my underlings!?” He said in a deep guttural voice that reverberated in the cave. “The question is who might you be?” Replied the Queen with a defiant tone. “I am Armok, spider overlord and ruler of this vast world you call home!” He answered. “If you are indeed the spider overlord” the queen replied slyly “then why are your minions not under your control?” The Overlord’s eyes narrowed “do not test me mortal” Armok warned “your stick is powerless against my scythe”. And with that Armok reached for his scythe and then swung it at the Spider Queen’s staff, thus causing it to splinter into nothingness. The Queen stared at her broken staff in shock. “You’ve wasted my time” said Armok as he swung his scythe at the Spider Queen, hitting her with the flat of the blade thus throwing her off of her throne. “I doubt you’ll be needing this fancy chair anymore” the Overlord said as he summoned a wither skull and launched it at the Spider Queen’s silken throne, thus destroying it. “Feed” he commanded his spidery servants pointing the blade of his scythe at the dazed body of the now dethroned Queen. His job done, Armok walked out of the cave as the Spider Queen’s screams echoed out into the blood red night...

The cave was converted into a secret chamber of demonspire with the spider queen now entombed into netherbrick, with a warning carved into a plaque by Armok’s scythe: let the skeleton of the spider queen serve as a warning to those who thirst for power…
