XV century German engraving entitled "The Knight" (Der Ritter)
This monster is immediately associated with two elements in particular: Forests and children. The folklore surrounding it tells stories in which children disappear when playing near a forest, to reappear as horribly mutilated bodies. It is also associated with the fire, making it appear in several photos just drawn between smoke from a house that disappeared in the flames. Basically hides in smoke, fog or in the trees, and their appearance is given before mysterious disappearances, or horrendous massacres associated with children. Like any myth, is subject to constant change, and from the appearance of various fictions that take it as protagonist is usually accepted that haunt those who know him, like children or people who like to take walks in the woods .
