It happened so fast, no one saw it coming. I think if someone did, they wouldn't have been able to stop it.
One day we were all living our normal lives. The air was calm, my kid was watching TV, and my wife was fixing up dinner. For some reason this dinner was amazing, it was the usual though. String pasta, breaded chicken, mashed potatoes, and my usual coffee to help me at work. I worked late nights in an office at a work I didn't much care for. But the pay was good and I got to spend time with my family in the mornings and afternoons.
As I was finishing up my paperwork that I decided to make for my boss to help him with a meeting tomorrow, the lights had flickered for a brief second. I had thought to myself that maybe a storm had rolled in. If I had only knew. The office fell silent. Then suddenly a sound shattering scream stabbed a knife in my chest. Fallowed shortly by another scream. They got closer and closer as I shuddered and hid under the desk. Something had passed by my cubicle it was extremely black and seemed to leave a black smoke in it's path.
The screams didn't stop for hours, I didn't think it was going to end. I think dawn had broke when they finally stopped. I slowly removed myself from under the desk in caution, battling my mixed emotions of what had happened. I started to walk around but couldn't see anyone. The only things left was their destroyed office spaces. Once I gathered up the courage I ran outside to my car. One thing was racing through my mind, over and over, "Is my family okay...". I turned the key and raced through the barren streets, trying to get home as fast as possible. I saw a few people just as scared as I was standing on the streets. At least I'm not completely alone and it filled me with hope. "My family must have survived, I just know it. They are probably sitting at home worried as much about me as I am of them." I arrive home and rush through the door. My heart sank as I saw the house resembled the same destruction the office suffered. I yelled out my families name but no answer. I ran through every room and ended up last in my boy's room. They were gone. My boy's blanket, which he had used since he was a toddler, looked like it was wrapped around a ghost of my little boy. I fell apart holding the blanket, wishing it was all a dream.
When I was able to pull myself together I wrapped the blanket around me like a scarf and took any supplies I could find. I left the house thinking maybe my family was still alive. If anything, find out what exactly happened.
Thank you for checking it out, and as always, rate, comment, and subscribe. :)
