Hello all!
After practicing extensively on Roman buildings I am restarting a roman city. So here is the city of Heraclea! This is a fictional roman city with a real roman city name. It is based loosely on the city of Portus, one of the major ports of ancient rome. I have included pictures of various inspirational things to give an idea of what this city may look like. The city is an artificial island, having a river to its east, and a port on the west side of a small peninsula. The port and river are connected by a canal, making the center of the city basically an island. The island is approximately 240 blocks east-west and 350-375 blocks north-south. The city is a major trade hub, handling both river trade and ocean trade. The basic terrain map is set, and I have begun to layout where some major landmarks will go to setup the basic layout of the city. The city will contain:
-A central Forum with: -a basilica with connected Tabularium
-2 temples - 1st temple 80% finished - Temple of Juno 70% finished
-2 arches - 1st Arch is finished!
-a curia - finished!
-Theatre modeled of theatre of Pompey 90% finished!!
-at least 1 more temple
-lighthouse-docks and warehouses(Horreum) - canal is in the map ** First 5 bay Horreum is finished
-Biremes and Corbitas and river barges in the harbor, at sea and in the river
-a market square w/insulae+shops
-couple of bridges
-several large villas(3+) including one vineyard and one palatial estate
-lots of domus and insulae - First waterfront Domus is 60% finished!
-Baths - modeled after Baths of Caracalla-aqueduct from mountains from in North-various fountains, gardens and statues
** project uses Stugace's texture pack www.planetminecraft.com/texture_pack/romecraft/ ** will not look right without!I would really like to form a small build team that focuses on ancient history type builds, essentially everything before the "Medieval" era. I really enjoy building as a small group and would like to find a couple more history buffs to build with. If you have any interest in doing some big history themed builds send me a PM! There have got to be some history buffs out there, I can't be the only one!JC
