"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves."

Strong. Nobody has ever hurt the Farwood. Nobody can. Axes bounce harmlessly off the trees as if they were rock, while deer run around free under the trees and squirrels collect nuts lazily with little hurry. By night, the wood comes alive with foxes and fireflies, dancing by the light of the moon and drinking in the waters of the river. Butterflies fly around in spring and the occasional farmer wanders through seeing the beauty of nature with no wishes to harm or cultivate it, just admire it. The gentle summer arrives and the sun beams down, and harmony is had throughout the forest, and that peace lasts all year around in the Farwood.

Farwood was very experimental. I love woods and forests, growing up in Southern England I was surrounded with them and have always wanted to create them in Minecraft. In my experimentation I've discovered that it's quite hard, but with the right levels of plant life and trees you can create some amazing atmosphere. However, renders for forests like this are extremely hard to do as from the top none of the details that make it look great are visible, you really need to be on the ground to see it properly. This is one of the main reasons why my previous forest, Fernpine Trail, was never uploaded fully. The mountain was interesting to make, I'm not too sure how happy I am with the mountain but in time I'll learn better techniques.

I used the following tools to create this map:
  • WorldPainter (for creating the map)
  • Chunky (for rendering the map)

I love the atmosphere in this. Feels like a lush and long lived forest. I'm in the middle of trying to make a very similar wooded world as a setting for my medieval city. Any suggestions or tips? Like for example: did you use a ground cover layer in WP?

Great work, fellow builder. As always!

Thanks! No, not these ones, I can't remember quite which ones I used but it was most likely something from Lente's fantasy repository - it's a fantastic resource, check it out here: www.planetminecraft.com/project/fantasy-tree-repository/
