This is just a note to everybody browsing this forum: if somebody posts a .jar or .exe file and asks you to execute it, don't run it before a moderator has seen the thread. Report them immediately. Don't post in it, don't ask if it works, just report the thread for being an executable.

Thanks

Some people do create legit .jar things or .exe things, but a few of the ones shared on the forums are actually viruses or that.

If it's legit, a moderator will check it out and approve it. There's too many viruses floating around that we just can't risk it.

I have to agree, from that Skype virus, to the lvl 1 viruses, there may even be some higher level virus people (or whatever they are called) trying to take pleasure. Hopefully we can stop this outbreak, keep up the job Paril!

If it's NOT legit, bad things will happen. Also if you have Trend Micro it will delete it.
Same with the official minecraft launcher EDIT: I meant it will be deleted.

People who just trust their AntiVirus Programms get a virus faster than those who dont only trust on AV-Programms....

My Tip: Dont download TexturePacks which need installers.

So... I won't get in trouble for flagging somebody's (seemingly) legit program? It's perfectly OK to just report it for being executable? Don't things like reporting non-malicious content go on our record??

If the project was not approved by a moderator, feel free to do so. We would rather not take any chances. Users will not get punished for reporting programs that are actually legit but may appear not to be.

Batch files are less dangerous because they are plain text and readable by anybody, whereas executables are harder to decompile in some cases. Still, they count, as users can easily make a batch file to wipe hard drives.

I agree but many people will not know this
So Never download .bat files- only if you know they are 100% safe
If not click open with -> Notepad or Notepad++ to see the code
Also, Paril, may you please have a look at the ''big trees mod'' containing a dodgy -minecraft ram adder-

Hey Paril,

I have a game i have made in executable format, it is 100% legit and there are no hidden virses ect, lots of people enjoy playing it and you can see for yourself that it is real. i wouldnt post anyhting that would result in me being banned from this community.

is there some way that you can mark my game as safe to download? because i think this post is useful but DOESN'T apply to ALL exe or jar files

thanks, Ice374

if you want to be realy sure that it is impossible that somebody whipes your hard drive or installes a virus you could use an sandbox, you could run those .bat, .jar and all other files in that sandbox that way it can't hurt your computer and the sandbox analysis the file whille it's running so you know exactly what it does

nyanekomimiI have 3 virus scanning programs so I think I'm good.

Are you sure that's a good idea? Most virus scanning and internet security programs tend to conflict with each other, so it's probably better off to just have one. Not trying to be critical or anything, just a bit of advice.
