Since this blog was getting old I have decided to update it, just for you guys, and in this blog I'll be talking about how to fix lag in Minecraft, as the title states. Now everyone, these are the things I have done to get rid of my lag, and may help you reduce or remove it as well.
Follow the following ways on what to do.
1. Reduce your Video Settings-
While playing Minecraft, if your computer is not strong enough to handle the video settings of the game, I suggest you turn down the settings and change them to these below:
Graphics: Fast Render Distance: 2 Chunks
Smooth Lighting: Off Max Framerate: Max/Unlimited
3D Anaglyph: Off View Bobbing: Off
GUI Scale: Normal Advance OpenGL: Off
Brightness: Any Clouds: Off
Particles: Minimal Server Textures: Off
Fullscreen: Off Use VSync: Off
2.Allocating More Ram to Minecraft [64-bit Only] -
-Launch up the Minecraft launcher
-Log In
-Go Down to Edit Profile
-Click JVM Arguments
-Change the number to how much ram you want.
ex. -Xmx2G <---- 2 Gigabytes.
3. Get Optifine -
Optifine is a minecraft mod that increases your fps drastically. It gives you the power of many settings that you can change in minecraft to improve your whole game. To install Optifine, download it, then right click the .jar file and Open With - Java Platform. Then just install and have fun.

4. Defrag your computer-
Over the time you use your computer, it can become cluttered with unnecessary files that just make your computer slower the more you use it. To get rid of these files and give your computer that extra speed boost, I recommend using a program called "Defraggler", and just run it and defrag your pc, and notice the improvement.

5. Clean your computer-
Often cleaning your computer can show a great improvement in performance and stability, and what I use to clean my computer is called "Wise Care 365" or even "CCleaner", this program is packed with many tools that allow you to clean your computer in various ways that help a lot. My experience with this tool is amazing, this program cleans so far down in your computer, you'll be surprised by how many junk files you can remove with this program.

6. Updating Drivers-
Now this one I just recently found out, and it helped a lot. Updating outdated drivers can lead to disasters in gaming or performance. So I use a program called "DriverMax" to help me with those issues. This program simply analyses your drivers, and then checks for their updates, which afterwards you can download and install. I suggest backing up your drivers first in the program, cause you never know.

or
To do this manually, go to your Device Manager in Control Panel of Windows OS. Open the drivers you want to update, such as your Display Adapter. Right click your Adapter and select "Update Driver Software", and select "Search automatically for updated Driver Software"
7. Bad Internet Connections-
I know not everyone will be able to buy a new plan on their internet services, so I'll tell you how to improve your connection in some ways. First off, turning off programs that use a lot of internet works very well, and next step I use is changing my DNS in my internet settings:
-Go to Control Panel
-Network and Internet
-Network and Sharing Center
-click "Wireless Network Connection"
-Click properties
-Click once "Internet Protocol Version 4"
-Click properties after,
-Use following DNS server addresses
-8.8.8.8
-8.8.4.4
(You can also use a program called namebench to give you the best DNS server for you)
That's how to do it, and search online for the "Internet Protocol Version 6", also there are many other DNS servers you can use, you just have to search online for them.

8. Removing Viruses and Malware-
Removing unwanted viruses and malware can help in many ways. Removing these two can help in performance and stability, since they could be corrupting your files or using majority of your internet to make it slower. Two programs I use to remove these two are "avg" and "Malwarebytes". These two programs are wonderful, and I use them at least once every two weeks.

9. Razer Game Booster-
Razer Game Booster is a Windows application that helps with performance. It clears unneeded processors that use up CPU power and helps boost game play. It as well has many tools that may be used by you to help clean your computer and improve it. I myself, use Razer Game Booster as it works very well for me and the framerates that I get from it is very noticable.

10. Assign More Cores -
This only works with computers that have at least two cores in their processors. On Windows 7, do the following:
- Open up Task Manager (right click task-bar, or CTRL-ALT-DELETE)
- Click the processors tab
- Right click Java processor
- Click set Affinity
- Click the cores you want to use
- Press OK
Done, see if your performance increased :)
11. Changing Compatibility Settings -
Disabling your Windows Theme and Desktop Composition frees up CPU power and can help with performance. This won't necessarily add fps, but will help make your Minecraft smoother.
- Right click your Minecraft icon
- Select Properties
- Select the Compatibility Tab
- Check off the boxes for "Disable Visual Theme" and "Disable desktop composition"
- Hit apply
- Open Minecraft
