This is simply a post to share some of what I learned skinning.
Anatomy
This is you.
Anatomy
This is you.
This is not you, silly human. You are flesh. This is an accumulation of computer pixels. This is a Minecraft skin.
This is a representation (displayed on a skin) of the human body.
Now, time to show what parts are what.
Fuschia is neck, Red is chest area, Yellow is Waist, Pink is hands, Green is hip, Blue is your 'no-nos' (for lack of better terms), Purple is your booty cheeks, Orange is where your legs start, and Dark Blue is feet.
Now that you know what parts are what, you can use this to appropriately clothe your skin.
This is disturbing. Please do not do this.
Shading
If you are starting to get into make up, you should have heard this already.
"Light in the mountains, Dark in the valleys."
High points of your face, like your nose and your cheekbones, need highlights and light colors.
Receding areas of your face, like your jawline and your temples, need dark colors, to make your face more dimensional. This applies when skinning.
Although this isn't the exact way you should shade, this is a general shading technique.
Notice how the head looks somewhat round, but still human.
Pretty much, if it's far away, make it darker. If it's closer, make it brighter.
Hair
Although your head is round(ish), your hair is not. Your hair is best off having different shading techniques than the rest of your body, or else it kind of looks like you painted on your hair.
Clothes
Clothes are a different part of your body, so again, seperate them from your skin's skin.
There is an exception to this rule for skin tight clothes, such as bodysuits.
Finally, she isn't naked!
Originality
Something this post is lacking.
If you edit a skin that has been made by someone else, it's not your skin. That includes if you use a program, like Skincraft, to make a skin using premade parts. That is not your skin, you just edited it. If you want an original skin, just make on from scratch! If you don't like it, just keep practicing. If you see most popular skinners' first ever skins, you'll be shocked.
Also, you know, it's against PMC rules to steal textures without the creator's permission, so yeah.
The End~
DISCLAIMER: This was an example skin. I do not do my skinning with three colors and most all off my skins have eyes.

if you do turn this into more of a tutorial, i think it would wise to include information about why you shade the body like that to look like anatomy (like the elbow shading to indcate a bend for example) ;)
