I am not saying this for everyone on the internet, but it does have some truth.
Age and maturity aren't always hand in hand. Typically, 13 and under are related to immature because that's how many people in that catagory present themselves (or at least the people that stand out.) But, when you act mature, many people will honestly care less about your age (and then there are the people that will completely disregard who you are as a human being, but honestly that is their own problem for not giving you a chance.) To sum it up, a lot of times you aren't necessarily being judged for your age, but how you present yourself. If you aren't acting "mature", people assume you are just another little kid. But there will always be people who don't care about who a person is, they are just judging from first glance. Those people suck. Their opinion is irrelevant.

What is typically deemed as mature or immature (at least on Minecraft)?
Immature:
-Raging and getting 'butthurt' easily. You've seen people in the chat on a server, they have been killed on a PVP server and they get really angry and start 'yelling' (can't technically yell on the internet, but you know) at the culprit. When you are on a server where PVP is enabled, you should know what's coming to you. Player VS Player. Some people are going to kill you because you're there, and your teammates may possibly kill you for whatever reason. I could honestly say more on this topic, but this is lengthy as is.
-Dating. This applies to real life, and especially in Minecraft. When you are young and dating, you come off to older people as immature, you don't really know what love is, and let's face it, not many people know what love is even into their twenties. and since you are dating on the internet, people look at it and think "oh, they have never met before. they don't know if it's a real person, blah blah I blame Obama blah".
-Illiterate typing. Not much comes off more immature and 'young' than not knowing the difference between too, to, and two. You should be expected to always type out everything properly, after all this is a video game, but sometimes I speak to people on MC and I do not understand what they are trying to tell me. This is something that somewhat bother me because of lack of communication. My only thing about this is type so people understand you.
-Being needy. Begging people for items is pretty annoying. You are on a video game, and you are expected to play. To save space, I am adding Pulling the "I'm a girl" card. being female doesn't make you special. Go punch your own trees.
-Not knowing the rules and commands. When you come onto a server, you are not expected to know everything, but reading the rules and checking out the commands makes it playing so much easier. There is little more irritating to a staff member than "I didn't know it was a rule." (<-- This is seriously my least favorite excuse behind "My brother did it". Which leads to..)
-Lying. Lying to protect your personal information is fine, but it's honestly better to not say anything about it if it makes you uncomfortable. But lying for attention or to appear cool is... just why. I've never understood impressing people with lies, they are interested in this person you made up, not you. Also, lying to prevent you from getting in trouble just makes staff membe.rs want to ban you more. Be honest and accept your ban, you might even be able to appeal on their forums.
-Sucking up to 'higher ranked' players. Mods, donators, and simply players with a lot of stuff alike, When you give all of your attention to staff and such in expectation of items, currency, or even a higher rank is not only unfair and rude, it's also unrealistic. A well run server will not give out ranks because you're buddies with their mod. Same thing goes on in PMC chat, if you're going to say hi, don't make your 'hi's' exclusive to staff. Say hi to everyone. (or simply say hi to all of your present friends). credit to Onere for this part!
Mature:
-Keeping calm. In situations where you are affected negatively, it's best if you respond calmly and resoursefully (if it's to bullying, try not responding at all)
-Knowing your stuff. Take time out of your first 5 minutes of playing on a server to read the rules and commands. It saves you so much time, and you may even find commands that are helpful.
-Being humble. Don't talk about "me me me" all the time. Bragging is also a no. It makes you appear not-so-down-to-earth, like you live in your own little world.
-Server appropriate typing. You've read the rules, you should know whether or not you can swear or use CAPS. Also, if you type properly, it makes you seem mature, but honestly it doesn't matter. Throw in your lol's and brb's.
----
I'm not saying that this is all black and white. But usually, when you see people acting boisterous and annoying, you connect it with "they don't know any better." Society deems your age as when you are a child, you don't know much yet. When you are a teenager or young adult, you have room for mistakes, you should know better, and when you are an adult, there are no excuses. You're like 30 now, get it under control. Seriously, if you are acting 'mature' and people still judge you for their age, that is their own problem. I think you're pretty fabulous.
Many of you reading this may be 11-14, so let me just say, you don't need to change yourself so you can appear more mature. You are at an age where you are growing and developing, no need to rush growing up. Stay electric, but also learn and grow. I can't really explain this well, so just give a listen to Vienna by Billy Joel.
