Welcome to the blog, now, you're probably wondering, what in the world is Bedrock Edition? Well, it's not an actual new version of Minecraft, technically it is, but Bedrock Edition is what I call the all new cross-play action between 5 different editions of Minecraft! Yes, that's right, Android, iOS, Windows 10, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch are all shedding their Minecraft branding and becoming the "Minecraft!" Now, you may be wondering, what about PS4? And will there be continued support for Java Edition users? Keep on reading for more information!
So, as you read in the brief introduction of this blog, MCPE, MC Win 10, MC XBOX, and MC Nintendo Switch are all getting cross-play action! To do this, Microsoft will be updating XBOX and Switch to the Bedrock engine (hence Bedrock Edition), the same engine that Pocket Edition and Windows 10 run on! That also means you can all join each other on servers!
Servers are also coming to all those platforms, yes, that's right! InPVP, Lifeboat, Mineplex, and Cubecraft are all Official Partners of Minecraft and you will be able to play on the servers on all the platforms that I listed!
Let's get more into the part where I said mobile, Windows 10, Xbox, and Switch are "shedding this branding!" Well, what I mean by that is Minecraft Pocket Edition, Minecraft XBOX Edition, Minecraft Windows 10 Edition, and Minecraft Switch Edition are all getting rid of those words after Minecraft (like Pocket Edition or Windows 10 Edition) and they are all becoming Minecraft! But wait, what does this mean for PC users?
Don't fret PC users, your Minecraft will become Minecraft Java Edition, not Minecraft. Java Edition is the new name for Minecraft PC, although that has been the name for PC Edition for quite some time, but I'm guessing the main screen won't show "Minecraft - Java Edition!" Now, you may be thinking, are updates for PC Edition discontinued? That's not the case, MCPC is going to be continued and there are actually more developers working on the game then ever! *Phew* stress relieved!
Now, I'll get to the part I've been wanting to talk about for a while! PS4! Sony, Sony, Sony! Sony didn't want in on the cross-play feature while 5 other versions of Minecraft are getting the "Better Together" update! But don't worry just yet Play Station users, there could always be a possibility that Sony will opt in on the Better Together update, but we'll just have to wait and see!
If you look at the title of this blog it says 4K graphics! And that is absolutely true, 4K graphics are coming to Minecraft, but it's only optional and you probably shouldn't use it if your device can't handle 4K! Remember that 4K is only coming to Xbox One X and Windows 10 devices, since mobile and Switch devices aren't capable of that resolution! Along with 4K comes the Super Duper Graphics Pack, this is basically a texture pack that changes the whole look of Minecraft with advanced lighting, dynamic shadows, and more! But there's a catch, the Super Duper Graphics Pack has a cost, but 4K is free!
Well, that's all for now, I'll keep updating this blog as I get more information on the topic! Until then, bye my [potato] spuds!
