If your Minecraft server doesn't have the 25565 port, you'll notice that only setting an "A record" doesn't actually work with your server (it might even take you to someone else's server!). By default, Minecraft assumes that a subdomaian going to it wants to connect to the 25565 port unless an SRV record is set, which is what this guide will help you achieve. To set an SRV record for your domain name registered with a domain registrar, follow these steps:
Section 1:
Major Domain Provider Instructions:
Once you've updated your Nameservers all you have to do is wait for the records to propagate through the internet and you'll soon be able to use a subdomain to connect to your server even if it doesn't have the 25565 port.
Section 1:
- Go to https://www.cloudflare.com/
- Click "Signup",
- Create an account,
- Next, hit "+ Add Site",
- Enter your domain in the box ie. planetminecraft.com,
- Allow 1-2 minutes for CloudFlare to scan your website,
- Once done, click "Continue Setup".
- Create a "A" record,
- In the "Name" box put the word "play",
- In the "IPv4 address" put your Server IP. (Without the port),
- Then click "Add Record".
- Click "A" and select "SRV",
- A popup will now appear,
- In the "Service name" box enter "_minecraft",
- In the "Protocol" box select "TCP",
- In the "Name" enter the IP you'd like people to join via,
- Select "Save".
- In the "Priority" box enter "0",
- In the "Weight" box enter "0",
- In the "Port" box enter your Minecraft server port which your hosting provider gave you,
- In the "Target" box enter the "A" record we made in Section 2,
- Click "Save",
- Click "Add Record".
- Select the "Continue" button,
- Scroll up, and select the "Free" plan,
