Hair!
Hey there! So, today I'm gonna be showing you how I shade and highlight hair. Let's go!

First, we outline where the strands go.
First, we outline where the strands will go.
How I Shade Hair (And Faces!) (ayy popreel!)
Lighten your color, then we make the strands longer by one pixel, and add shading to any empty space where the lines are darker.

How I Shade Hair (And Faces!) (ayy popreel!)
Lighten your color and finish the strands, along with finishing the basic shading.

Fill in the blanks with your base color.
Top of the head.

Start off by making a cross and placing dots where your strands end.

Replicate the shading from your first side.

Copy the complicated shading.

Add highlights

Complicated shading and Highlighting
Now we're moving on to more advanced shading and highlighting.

Take what you've already done and make the darker sides longer, allowing you to shade more and making the shading a little bit more complicated and nice looking. You can do this in any pattern you want.

Place down where you want your highlight to be without hue shifting, and use the base color to highlight the lightest strands.

Now hue shift (Don't lighten!) and redo some of the highlight

Add some extra shine to the highlight.

Faces!
Alright guys, I'm finally doing faces!

Start off with a pretty creepy blank face and your favorite type of bangs, the lazy ones!

Now shade where the lightest shadows would hit on the face.

Shade where the shadows would get darker, and fix any mistakes you made with the previous lighting

Now shade where the shadows would get even darker, and edge along with your lighter color.

Now replace a bit of the shading with your second-to-darkest color.

Bam! you've got the skin shading done. Just make the corners that you had already shaded (with the second-to-darkest color) your darkest color and you're done.

Now add your eyes. Always make the eyelashes the same color as the shading, and the pupil color 2 shades lighter than the shading. Then make the (white part of the eye?) another 2 shades lighter. Usually at this point I add little eyebrows but that's not part of this tutorial.
