Warning: Bluntness ahoy!
This blog contains informal English and a lot of opinions.
As many of us do, I was flipping through the pop reel on the home page. Just an average day, you know; with all of your texture packs and skins and stuff. As we all know, though, the most interesting stuff is always what ended up on the homepage as a mod… yeah. They can either be really amazing or just pathetically useless, and today, I’ve had it.
A line was crossed when I stumbled upon a Minecraft browser… as basic as one could be. Having had knowledge with visual basic myself, literally anyone can make a browser. It’s that easy. I’ll get back to that in a second, but for now I’m concerned about other things posted to the “mods” section that aren’t really mods per say. There are undoubtedly more of these “mods” (or should we say, newbies trying to program) that are utterly useless in every way shape and form. It’s to the point where I’d be surprised if someone hadn’t posted a “mod” that just said ‘hello world’ in a mediocre message window when you clicked on it.
So, what’s up with all of these useless supposedly minecraft themed programs? Who knows? I just hope they don’t legitimately think they’ve made something worthwhile. Having that said, however, also brings up another much needed conversation; does PMC need more quality control? Sure we have the flagging system, but there’s always that one person in the comments claiming they “Love it. Diamond.” (I swear, no matter how bad the project is there will always be that person down in the comments).
Anyhoo, back to my whole rant on web browsers… yeah. They are literally one of the easiest things to make in Visual Basic, it’s ridiculous. I literally lost it when I saw such a horrid looking “minecraft browser” in the pop reel using stock windows buttons and your basic “Back”, “Forward”, “Refresh” buttons (that’s pretty much it). Mind you, these buttons have their function written on them. There was no thought put into GUI, and that honestly bugs me more than anything else. If you’re going to make such an easy project, at least make it look half decent!
So, are they actually mods?
Well, I think I’ve done all I can do here. Thanks for reading!
Pictures made by me. Dramatized, of course.
Thank You!

Why don't people use a cross platform language that wasn't crap in the first place?
I've seen the Minecraft browsers, and all they are is some VisualBasic crappy template
that's nearly worse than IE, then with some hyperlinked buttons attached to them to replace the good ones we already have for going to pages. I really don't want to trade my CSS, JavaScript, HTML5 etc. just to have good buttons replaced with VB ones. If you want to make an internet browser, do some real work and use something that you can actually customize, such as the Java open source browser. Once you're done, don't post it on a Minecraft fansite.
