Better Item Frames V.3
Invisible & fixed item frames in Survival!
From Minecraft 1.20.2 to 1.20.6

How to use?

Make Invisible item frames

In order to make your (glow or regular) item frames invisible, you need to right-click an item frame while sneaking and having Shears in the main hand.
The background will then be cut from the item frame, making it invisible. This action will consume the Shears durability, the process will take into account the Unbreaking enchantment (even levels greater than 3).

Make them visible back

There are two ways to make their background reappear: you can either completely remove the item frame and place it back, or if you already set up several of them and you want to save time, you can also right-click these item frames while sneaking and having a Brush in the main hand.
The background will then be glued back to the item frame, making it visible. This action will consume the Brush durability, the process will take into account the Unbreaking enchantment (even levels greater than 3).

Lock item rotation

In order to lock item frame rotation, you can right-click an item frame while sneaking and having Glass Panes in the main hand.
It will consume a Glass Pane, as if it was fixed on the item frame. The item itself can be changed, but it won't be able to be rotated anymore. In order to unlock the rotation, you will need to break the item frame, and place it back.

3 Update Logs

30 April 2024 - V.3.0.0 & V.3.0.1 : by KawaMood 04/30/2024 5:50:58 pmApr 30th

⚠️ This version has been made for Minecraft 1.20.5. Do not update if you're playing on 1.20.4 or less. The data pack automatically updates from its V.2 if you were already using it. You can safely install it if you're playing on 1.20.5.

Changes from 3.0.0:
  • Updated features for 1.20.5.
  • Now use the V.3 PK data packs standards.
  • Tools used to shear/repair items frames don't damage anymore in creative mode.
Bug fix from 3.0.1:
  • In survival mode, using a glass pane to fix an item frame rotation didn't consume it.

I'm running this on 24w13a and it works perfectly, except for the glass pane consume function - it takes the whole stack instead of one item. I wonder if something was broken by the snapshots?

Hi, it is not supposed to work on 1.20.5 yet. This version completely replaced the system of NBT for items with data components. Most of data packs (and even mod and plugins) will break for this version.

Hi, yeah data packs should work on them.

Nice data pack. Btw, can I give you a suggestion? After detaching an item from an invisible frame, the frame itself should be visible again. I.e. the item frame will keep the invisibility property, but without the item in it, the frame should be visible. To distinguish between an empty visible frame and an empty invisible frame, you can consider adding some particle effects.

Nice! This would be cool for armor stands too, or something similar.

Also, the sentence "or if you already set up set up several of them and you want to gain time" should end with save time.

Thank you for the correction! I'm not an english native speaker, so my sentences can be clumsy sometimes. ;)

Could this same concept be applied to armor? The ladies in my realm would love to show off their skins without worrying about dying more easily.

Hi,
Nope it won't be possible with a data pack, but there is a client-side mod that allows you to not render players armors : www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/hide-armor
