Been seeing a LOT of pirate skins in the Seven Seas Skin Contest, so why not counter those "sea barbarians" (who are probably hired by those pesky French "Froggies") who raid and plunder our ships coming home from India WITH THE ROYAL NAVY!
Now with that front punchline out of the way, here's some context:
The Royal Navy was founded in 1574, 475 years ago. Since it's founding, the navy has served under the crown for some time. The navy first had a role in the age of sail, Private ships (privateers, which acted like pirates, but served for a country) combined with the small but still tough English navy frequently combatted with Spanish ships coming from the Americas. In 1707, following the Acts of union between England and Scotland, The navy became even larger, and becoming even more active. The navy then found itself in War of the Spanish Succession (1702–1714), and then the American Revolutionary Wars (1775 – 1783), and then The French Revolutionary Wars (1793–1801) and finally Napoleonic Wars (1803–1814 & 1815), the timeframe where the skin is set on. The navy found itself in much more activity in the turn of the 20th century, but that's a story for another day.
(I didn't make the hat cuz it's kinda hard to do lol)
Here's one of the references I used :
