The simplest way to play pixelmon would be to download the ATLauncher from: https://atlauncher.com/downloads
They have a guide to installing it on that page
After it's installed Click "Packs" on the right hand side, then simply find "Pixelmon Mod" or "Pixelmoncraft" and click "Create New Instance" or "Install" and it will install the mods right away!
After that, just log in, click on "Instances" and click "Play" then join the server!
If you're talking about levelling up on planet-minecraft, then you gain experience through views, downloads, votes, diamonds, emeralds, etc when you post replies or post submissions!
