"When Christopher Pike first gave me his ship, he had me recite the Captain's Oath. Words I didn't appreciate at the time. But now I see them as a call for us to remember who we once were and who we must be again. And those words: Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Her five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before."

- Captain James T. Kirk

Featuring a starship that has carried crew, tribbles and dreams alike, "Star Trek" is often the first thing that comes to many people's minds when considering the genre of science fiction. I believe the desire to explore is coded into our genes; this trait may even characterize the word "human". Through Star Trek, the USS Enterprise and her crew, our innate desire to explore is satisfied.

I began this build around the word "starship", but after re-watching Star Trek: Beyond, I knew exactly what I wanted to build. One of the first challenges I faced was selecting one of many iterations of the USS Enterprise; ultimately, I selected the model from The Motion Picture (Trekkies, you know which one). This version of the Enterprise was the perfect blend of the original (1966) and modern (2009) Enterprises, and contained enough detail to remain a challenging build.

While working on this build, I fittingly listened to the soundtracks of the recent Star Trek films. I slowly began to realize the huge following that Star Trek and the USS Enterprise had. Something about the eccentric, yet sleek design of the Enterprise caused people to gravitate towards it, thus cementing it as a timeless historical pop culture icon.

Side notes

Two worlds are included in the download file: One with the asteroids and planetoids, and one without.

For aesthetic reasons, I chose not to build interiors. If there is enough demand, I can update the download file to contain a version that does have interiors.

The planetoids and asteroids were actually inspired by the end credit scenes of the recent Star Trek films; I liked the aesthetic of being close up to interstellar objects

Nice build. Looks huge. Too beefy for my computer. What not to love?

(any constructive criticism would've came here)

Ahaha, thanks! I was a little worried about the size of the ship as I did need to slightly turn up my rendering distance towards the end of the build...hope everything works out :)
