The Tayne Valley has long been a natural choke point between the Kingdom of Vas'Taynus and the more savage lands to the south.
Many years ago the Kingdom, in an effort to show its might, built a great fortress spanning the entire mouth of the valley. This fortress' purpose has been to prevent forces from the south assaulting the central and northern kingdoms, and it has thus far proven impassable, forcing any would-be conquerors to march hundreds of miles to find passable terrain.
In the current time of peace the front gate on the right side as well as the central gate are rarely closed, open to traders and travelers from the more civilized southern regions. Most of the guards are posted on the Old Wall, situated close behind the fortress. That wall was the original defensive structure built in the area many years before the Shield even began construction. However, should the need arise, the Shield can be fully manned and hold enough stocks to withstand a prolonged siege, even from both sides.
[This build has been sitting around for a while so I figured I should just post it. There is no interior as of yet, and the town behind it is still in the planning stages, hence the pictures only showing 1 side.]
