A reconstruction of a colossal Roman temple dedicated to Bacchus, the god of wine, located in Baalbek, Lebanon. Not much is known about the history of this temple, however, ornamentation on the building date it back to at least the 2nd century A.D. This temple stood with another massive temple, dedicated to the king of the gods, Jupiter, in a complex known as the Heliopolis. Today, the Temple of Bacchus remains in a relatively preserved state, and while its interior is relatively intact, it is no longer the grand spectacle many historians believed it to be.
