The Galley "Jasmin"

The Galley is a long shaped type of ship from the mediterranean sea. A Galley is propelled primarily by many oars and armed with a ram at the front. The Galley has it's roots arround the time of the first millennium B.C. by the early mediterranean powers like the greeks.

During the time it became the dominant type of warship in the mediterranean sea. Square shaped sails were switched with latin sails and by the change of warfare Galleys were armed with canons. Till the 19th century Galleys were in use.

The Jasmin is part of a german medieval roleplaying Server.

Die Galeere "Jasmin"

Die Galeere ist ein langgezogener Schiffstyp des Mittelmeerraumes. Eine Galeere wird hauptsächlich durch eine Vielzahl von Rudern angetrieben und ist mit einem Rammsporn am Bug bewaffnet. Ihre Wurzeln hat die Galeere im ersten Jahrtausend v.Chr. bei den ersten Mächten des Mittelmeeres, z.B. den Griechen.

Im Laufe der Zeit wurde die Galeere zum dominierenden Kriegsschiff im Mittelmeer. Rahsegel wurden durch Lateinersegel ersetzt und mit der Änderung der Kriegsführung wurden Galeeren mit Kanonen bewaffnet. Bis in das 19. Jahrhundert waren sie im Gebrauch.
