Lets Go Fishing - Holiday Edition

The fish in these parts are unlike any other. Ya see, way up here in the north it's mighty cold. So cold the fish grow wool coats to survive the harsh winter conditions. The "Wool Trout" is an invasive species considered by most fishologist to be an abomination, advocating their removal.

BassCrafter Classic is an annual event held around Christmas. Anglers compete head to head trying to catch the most Wool Trout. The angler with the most Wool Trout can win big, taking home the pride and satisfaction of knowing that your the best, and the ability to gloat and boast amongst your fellow anglers.

Rules

  • Best played on a server with 2 or more players.
  • Anglers should stay within their teams allocated space.
  • A teams space is defined by the dyed "Wool Trout" pelts on the ground. (wool blocks)
  • Players choose teams when they stand on the colored fishing zones.
  • Players can play for another team mid-game if they wish, but their score stays with the team color.
  • Must use Minecraft 1.11
  • Have fun
May the fur be with you!

Game Options

In the current version, there are only a few implemented options. They are as follows:

Difficulty
  • Easy'ish: Large Adult Wool Trout, and CastGrappler™ Casting bobber into Wool Trout hitbox will teleport sheep to you.
  • Hard'ish: Baby Wool Trout, with CastGrappler™
  • Hard: Baby Wool Trout and CastGrappler™ is disabled. Wool Trout do not teleport to player, you have to reel them into your catch zone like a Marlin. This is much more difficult than it seems, but I have managed to catch all 21 Wool Trout in approx ~3 minutes.

Fine Print:

Hello and welcome Planet Minecrafters! I present to you my first mini game map specifically designed for the BassCrafters Classic competition. The idea for the game was based on the classic children's game "Lets Go Fishing" where players attempt to catch little fish from a spinning platter. It's really quite challenging.

Being that the BassCrafters Classic is happening around Christmas time, I felt compelled to give it a holiday theme, and dub it the "Holiday Edition". The playing area is decorated with Christmas themed elements like snowmen, Santa, candy canes, and holiday gifts. A giant snowflake in the sky provides a symbolic cloud structure for faux snow that appears to be falling from it.

While the Holiday Edition is cute and all, I fully intend to make improvements, enhancements, and bug fixes long after the Planet Minecraft competition is over. The Holiday Edition of the game required a few shortcuts in order to complete on time for entry, while still being playable. So stay tuned for improved gameplay mechanics and more functionality.

This project was a solo build with almost all blocks placed by hand. The mountains surrounding the arena were generated using WorldEdit in 1.10.2, then carefully placed into the 1.11 world using MCEdit. (I know VoxelSnipper is better, but I don't know how to use that program yet.) The trees in this build are part of an IceTree bundle that I have previously made available for download in my profile.

Seeing as how I am a noob when it comes to Command Blocks, I would love to get your feedback on how best to improve the game. This is my first mini game and know I have a lot to learn. I do have some ideas on how to add more of the polishing touches that set a great game apart. I did lean heavily on the forums for help in debugging and suggestions for commands. And also YouTube for many great tutorials to get me started. To all those that helped. Thank you for your suggestions and guidance. I think the uniqueness and cleverness in execution of this game makes this project a real winner! Please leave a diamond if you agree.

Planned Enhancements
  1. Arena floor has multiple patterns saved as structure files. I plan to add an option for automatic changing of arena floor either during game or between games.
  2. I would also like to add the ability for people to set the arena floor to their favorite pattern.
  3. If you would like to change the floor, there are structure blocks below the arena. Just click the *"Load"* button for the pattern you would like to show.
  4. I would like to add more floor patterns.
  5. NOTE: If you would like to generate a pattern to be included after the competition, you can submit a structure block nbt file to me. Make sure the pattern is exactly 25x25.
  6. I am planning to add additional difficulty modes
  7. I am planning to have an item mode. The original plan was to catch fish items. But certain issues arose and I shifted to sheep. I now have a working prototype of an item version, but did not want to include it in this release for competition.
  8. Leaderboard (even for offline players)
  9. Player stats stored within the game
  10. Point system for improved fishing rods.
  11. Sound effects (e.g. xp_orb when catching a Wool Trout)
  12. Fireworks and sound effects on winning team.
  13. Title for announcing winning team(s)
Progress95% complete

Creator,I am a Chinese and I find your map. It looks very good. I want to repost it to a Chinese MC website,
http://www.mcbbs.net/
Of course, I will list your name and translate what you said into chinese.
So could you allow me repost it and create a Chinese link to make more Chinese know it and download it?

Thanks a lot.

BTW, your other buildings are also very good.
May I repost them?

Hi @Smokey_Days, I am glad you like the game. You are free to post discussions about the game, or even repost a translated description on another site, however people should download the game from this page on Planet Minecraft. Hope that makes sense.

I must say, for a one person effort, you've done an excellent job! This entry stands out brightly amongst the others as you're the first one to create a fully fleshed out, high quality game. I aspire to one day be as great a Journeyman Pig as you.
