A reconstruction of an iconic Catholic church in Paris, France. This neo-classical building was planned by King Louis XV, with construction beginning in 1764. Due to the Revolution in 1789, construction was temporarily halted, until Napoleon Bonaparte picked the project back up in 1806, planning it to be converted to "a temple to the glory of his Grand Army." After his first exile in 1814, King Louis XVIII took over construction, with plans to dedicate the church to Mary Madeleine, a follower of Jesus Christ who witnessed both his death and resurrection. It wasn't until the reign of King Louis-Phillipe, that the church was completed in 1842. Today, the church stands as a popular tourist attraction in Paris, where worship is still held, and the famous pipe organ inside is still used.
