Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer in English) is giant statue of Jesus located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Jesus is depicted T-posing to assert His dominance over the forces of sin, death, hell, and the devil. At least, that's the reason I'm going with.
I wanted a detailed statue, so I meticulously placed every block following the best reference images I could find, and I made heavy use of slabs and stairs. My favorite detail is the hands. Every part of them turned out better than I expected, from the fingers to the wounds where He was nailed to the cross to pay for the sins of the world. Because of the angle and detail, it's likely impossible to get the face to look right, but I got it as best as I can. It looks good from the side, though. If someone thinks they can improve the face, you're welcome to leave a comment.
The real life statue is made from concrete, but real life concrete is nothing like Minecraft concrete. I used stone (with andesite for the hair), because I thought it matched the color closest. However, the real life color is lighter and maybe slightly yellow. All that is to say that if you wanted to build Him, blocks like smooth sandstone or quartz would be good options, too. I didn't put as much into the pedestal, because that's not what's important, but I did my best to get the scale about right.
The statue alone is 125 blocks tall (compared to the real life 30), with the pedestal being an additional 37 blocks tall (compared to the real life 8). That brings the total height to 162 blocks. His arm span is 121 blocks (compared to the real life 28).
I made sure to put a pressure plate on every uncovered stone block and button on top of every uncovered andesite block to make Him spawn proof in the dark and safe for survival worlds.
Material List (statue only)
Body:
stone or smooth quartz 9994 hollow 63,745 solid
stone or smooth quartz stairs 1710
stone or smooth quartz slabs 759
Hair:
andesite or quartz 433
andesite or quartz stairs 185
andesite or quartz slabs 29
Spawn proofing/crown:
437 pressure plates and 29 buttons or 466 iron pressure plates
12 end rods
Total base materials (assuming stairs made in stonecutter):
Stone if solid: 66,738 = 1042 stacks + 50 = 38 shulker boxes, 16 stacks, + 50 (includes buttons & pressure plates)
Stone if hollow: 12,987 = 202 stacks + 59 = 7 shulker boxes, 13 stacks, + 59 (includes buttons &; pressure plates)
Andesite: 633 = 9 stacks + 57
Quartz blocks: 12,717 = 198 stacks + 45 = 7 shulker boxes, 9 stacks, + 45 (includes smooth & regular)

1 Update Logs
Update #1 : by Steve_Steveson 05/10/2024 5:00:24 pmMay 10th
- Added hollow version of stone statue.
- Added quartz model of statue, also hollow.
- Added crown to head.
- Added more detail to the platform beneath the pedestal. It's not as accurate as the rest of the build, but it's close enough for me. (It's not really the main focus.)
- Moved everything into a single region file.
- Turned everything to face east.
- Added material list to description.

its not where you left, and its not at spawn.
This statue is quite something to build in survival.
I opened the world in single player and used WorldEdit to create my own schematic.
I then imported that into litematica so I could build it in survival.
I highly recommend making a materials list for a better build experience. It sucks running back and for to try and collect mats.
Im about halfway through my the build... and have spent about 5 hours, just to give you an idea of what it takes to build in survival.
Ive also been leaving the inside hollow.
Happy building!
Thank you for this iconic replica Steve_Steveson !
By the time I finished making this, I had long since stopped playing on the world I had intended to build it in because of new updates. They only one I've built in survival so far was on a create mod world, using a shcematicannon.
I do intend to post an update with a hollow version, and a quartz version, but I don't know when I'll get to that. A materials list will come with it at that time. I think it takes about 11 shulker boxes of stone hollow.
Thank you for your kind words, and have a great day!
