Well while that might be true the effect is still nearly identical. The problem is that minecraft skins have a very low resolution which ruins the effect of texturing. Besides, why aren't you allowed to add shading? That makes no sense. Why can't you use both? On a larger picture adding textures is a good way to make a surface appear less flat. Texturing is essentially adding small shadows and highlights all to create an uneven surface. You have to use shading, if you're not just stealing the textures from the internet which as stated earlier has the same effect as adding a noise filter. So that means this whole competition is a bit contradictory. You have to use shading and highlights but aren't allowed to do so at the same time... So to clarify: you want the entries to be crude one toned skins with a texture they haven't made themselves added on top? That doesn't seem like much fun... If you made a texture that the competitors would have to follow that would be a cool competition. Might host one of those myself.
