This is where you can ask questions regarding the event, share your thoughts or share what you have created. We hope you are excited as we are!
Questions specific to the Magic PvP Framework data pack should be asked in the comment section instead, so they are useful to readers outside the event. And you can share your creations in this thread if you have completed the challenge.

I really just want to say to say that the badge is really awesome. This event was my first and I really enjoyed it! <3
Just wanted to drop in and say how cool this event was! All the submissions look interesting and the event badge itself is just the cherry on top. Great work everyone!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Wonder what the prize is!
of course I have 0 chance against some of the AMAZING creations out there. Well done everyone!
(P.S. this is only my 2nd event!)

I came back to Planet Minecraft yesterday ( I was very busy in February) and so I discovered the Magic event very late. I did my best to make a datapack with some nice spells. But I didn't have time to make a proper description in time and the "edit page" button is locked. So if there's a way to rework the description, I'd appreciate it ^^
Anyway, thanks for organizing this event !

Unfortunately you cannot edit the submission during the review time. Adding a link to an external page in a comment is an excellent solution though!
If I were to make a wand or an item, would i need to make a crafting recipe and a have a spell or can it just be a model or fancy stick?
No, you don't need spells, but I would suggest trying to post it as a mob skin instead, because super tiny resource packs are not allowed (according to PMC rules).
Thanks for the quick reply - I wasn't to make just one wand but rather a magical resource pack with a geminitay empires inspired hat and wings :]
Arena Map Tip & Updates
- For arena maps: Run /defaultgamemode adventure. This makes new players automatically join in that gamemode and will allow them to respawn at the exact world spawn block. Otherwise players will spawn at the highest block at the world spawn.
- I have made this update a while back, but people keep asking after it so I wanted to repeat it here: The Magic PvP Framework now has better hitbox detection. You can actually hit players in the head now :P
- Also, the framework got an extensibility update, you can now add your own CustomModelData to the item and there are several more function tags to hook into the framework and extend its functionality. See the update log for more details.
Definitely joining! <3
Would an alternative recourcepack for my magic datapack be allowed? I think it would be but am not sure because it wouldn’t change anything unless used with the datapack which was created before the event.
Yes it's allowed, but all textures have to be made from scratch though. You can't reuse them from the original resource pack.
Okay, thank you for the fast response :)
For a map to be eligible, do I have to use the exact commands in the demo world, or can I do it however I want to as long as it meets the requirements?
Technically any arena that is magic themed is a valid entry, but in order to complete the challenge it needs to at least provide a way to obtain the wand, hat and spells from the Magic PvP framework data pack. The LVL 1 instructions feel like the bare minimum to achieve this, but if you find another way you can go ahead (just make sure you remove the data pack before publishing) =)
The advantage of completing the challenge is that users can just pick & mix any spell data packs, maps, skins and resource packs for their battles. By providing the items from the framework data pack, you prevent users from needing to do any set-up or run any commands to start the fight.

just to clear things up, if we have a skin we made for a community contest, and it fits under the 'magic' theme of this event. could we publish it as an entry?
Eh, only if you made it after the Magic event started and (I know you said this already) if the skin actually relates to magic.
can i submit animation to this
All PMC resource types are allowed. Idk what type your animation would be, but I suppose you can upload it.
Can my participation trophy be a pc?
I need one of them too 👀
lol will jedi count as magik ? ik submitted but that was my original idea but lightsabers blocked it
Nope, lightsabers are not classified as magic :P
Oh thank you! I didn’t know.
What do people get if they lose? Participation trophies?
This is not a contest, but an event. There are no winners and losers. There will most likely be a participation trophy, but it hasn't been designed yet.
What do I do if I can't do it for 1.18? Would 1.17 work?
The submissions should be 1.18. Why aren't you be able to create one for that version?
I use Mcreator to mod and it only does 1.17 and below. I might come out with 1.18 sometime but probably not for a while
Ah I thought all mod frameworks were updated by now. I guess 1.17 mods (only) are okay to submit.
Can I make a cape?
Yes you can, as they said. Good Luck!
Sure
I also want to participate
Just submit your entry before 1st March, And wait for results. Good Luck :)
UPDATE TIME!
- Added a quick start on Custom Model Data for creating resource packs inside the resource packs spoiler. (Using this will prevent applying the textures to unrelated items)
- Published the Magic Arena Reference map for map making. (It contains all the techy bits as a visual alternative to the guide)
The "Magic Arena Reference" link seems to be down/broken from the event page in the maps spoiler/section. Can it be fixed? I would like to take a closer look at the map.
whoops it got left behind during the release. Poor map .-.
Will all the datapacks (that meet the challenge requirements) be combined into one datapack after the event ended, like in previous events?
Actually, that only happened in the first event. In the end I will try to make a collection of all data packs that use the framework (and therefore completed the challenge), so that users can pick and mix spells themselves. This gives everyone the appropriate level of credit, which isn't the case for combining all the data packs.
Since I won't be combining anyone's data packs, it's also against the rules to combine the framework data pack into your spell pack. (A friendly reminder for other readers :P )

Well, a pick and mix concept seems very nice.
That made me think about putting my spells into categories and publishing the categories as separate datapacks (since up to 5 are allowed), so there is even more customizeability for people choosing their spells.
Do you think that could be useful?

Yeah, seems like a good idea.
Im a datapack maker. I was wondering if it would be against the rules to copy a spell from another video game and introduce it into minecraft.
No it's not against the rules. It's also allowed to make spells that other data pack creators have already created. Just make sure you don't copy any actual code.
Is it possible not to make a PVP datapack, but to improve vanilla mobs, for example, witches?
Yes, you don't have to do the challenge if you don't want to. The extra challenge is there to allow everyone to work together at a cost of creative freedom, but you are allowed to also work individually and submit something like this.
What will the magic arenas be used for? I apologize if the info is written somewhere and I missed it.
There is a data pack framework provided that allow players to cast spells at each other. The trailer video showcases the magic :P
Anyone think i have a chance of winning (if it is a competition)?
