I prefer multishot crossbow with fully packed firework rockets.

An End Crystal is useful, but it's a pain to get the materials and set it up.
It's technically not considered a weapon because you cannot hold it in your hand and use it to deal damage.
TNT is a block, not a tool or a weapon, and it does not deal direct damage, rather area explosion damage, which goes the same for the End Crystal.
If you were going to fight a player or a mob unintentionally, an End Crystal would be hard to use, similar to TNT, unless you planned it out.

Why sword: you can close combat this but if you combine these with some shields that can be quite OP.
Why bow you can just add infinity to an bow and you just need 1 arrow then you can spam it when there's a ton of monsters like a combination of zombies and witches or a combination of piglins and hoglins. (⌐■_■)

its end crystal, it can insta-kill protection 4 full diamond guys. They use them a lot on 2b2t. Only works at full power on hard mode though
I know. I suck at crystal PVP but it's still kinda fun.
i would say emerald sword
The bow is best IMO. Infinity and flame and send it soaring. I like to snipe mobs from atop the village church. Also with the flame enchantment and shaders it looks the coolest.
personally sword or axe. sword i find is better against getting away quickly, while axes are if you really want to tank their health
I voted sword simply because my modded sword can one shot a wither.
I say bow because it's just better for me. I have pretty decent aim, and if whoever I'm fighting can't get close to me then I have a huge advantage. Not to mention in ordinary survival, bows are extremely easy to get.
Many people say the cooldown in 1.9 ruined pvp. I VERY STRONGLY disagree. Cooldown is fine if you can time, what is a problem is the end crystals completely bypassing the point of armor unless you have blast protection.

They're only op on hard difficulty. I personally don't mind since crystal pvp makes for a lot of interesting dynamics normal pvp can't compete with.
I still think crystal pvp would be more fair if they were only able to be placed on bedrock like they were prior to the obsidian placement addition. Now you can bring it as a surprise to a fight and 1 shot someone if they aren't ready for it and have a shield. The only counter to this being a enchanted apple eaten pre-crystal pop or a totem in hard mode.
Lots of servers have rules about ambushes I guess, but It's not like crystal pvp is likely to be in use or even known about on servers with rules.
Yeah ,the general playerbase does not know but places like the pvp community (notoriously toxic and especially on Java) and 2b2t especially it is encouraged and expected to get any advantage or get the jump on the enemy or use crystals to kill them before they can even use a normal weapon. There is also the resource discrepancy and the resource divide between old and new players but that is out of the control of game balance.
Trident. Does the damage of a netherite sword, and you can throw it.
The Trident is the best because of the enchantments it gets
