Structure datapacks with custom world feature?

Now that we can modify vanilla assets in the worldgen folder, has anyone released or been working on a revamp of existing structures with, say, jigsaw blocks? I'm trying to find out if it's feasible to update Mineshafts with a pack.

It would indeed be possible to revamp structures by changing the world generation settings. They would need to be saved as a separate dimension to the vanilla overworld though, so you would need to do a little bit of work to patch it in flawlessly.

Ok. You couldn't just change "minecraft/worldgen/configured_structure_feature/mineshaft.json"?

Only certain structures are built with jigsaw blocks. Other parts of the world generation (such as caves, mineshafts, trees, lakes, etc.) are generated through older, more dynamic hardcoded methods and would require you to replace the hard-coded world settings in a custom biome for a custom dimension. SlicedLime should have some of the easiest to understand explanations of custom dimensions and biomes on youtube as he is one of the Minecraft devs who helped write them.



I didn't go into too much detail about this, because it would be possible to build your own version of mineshafts using jigsaw blocks. It's not how vanilla generates them though, so it's not a easy drop-in replacement.

No, you can't change them. The only structures which are usable for fully custom structures are village, bastion_remnant and pillager_outpost.
