Did they stop supporting the old launcher or something?

I uninstalled the launcher, then reinstalled it, and it looks like that fixed the problem.
maybe try updating launcher or get a new pc

Maybe file conflict, move your .minecraft folder to somewhere else and try again ( it will re-generate fresh .minecraft folder)
Tried it, didn't work.
Wouldn't surprise me, but Idk. I guess, for the time being, just use the new launcher, even if you don't like it.
How do I get the new launcher? I can't seem to find it.
Look in the Microsoft store.
