What's more useful in real life? ELA or Math?
I don't want ANYBODY in replies to say "bOtH aRe gOod" no being on the fence, you gotta decide. :/
and the majority of the arguments you'll see in the reply aren't attacking people personally, they're attacking the person's arguments.
everyone here can handle an argument, i know, ive seen people in these polls for a little while now, so please don't say "quit arguing"
arguing is the purpose of these polls, arguing is to leave someone with an opposing side's point of view. if you dont want to argue, you can leave
also dont go in my replies just saying what you voted. tell me why you voted what you voted.
thank you for coming to my ted talk. have fun

Math wins! I'm happy and sad all at the same time!!!
I guess civilization couldn't survive without either one, so I voted math just to torment those who don't like math.
i bet you said that just to spite my comment lol
Partly, yes xD
I am saying ELA purely out of hatred for math.
LA is good if you want to write anything as your job, like if you're a reporter. But if you're anything else, then you can get by with a 6th grade English education. you'll have a much harder time with a 6th grade math education
I’d say ELA because you need to know how to communicate. Math wouldn’t be that useful if you couldn’t talk to anyone about it
math so you can figure out how many of something you are selling so you know how many diamonds to charge
without ela, you wouldnt be able to communicate, you wouldnt know how many diamonds to pay or charge
hehe

Unfortunately math lol, although I enjoy ELA more
without ela you cant speak or read.
really? cause i was able to talk before i got in school so
not very true
not very true
its not about what's taught in school, its simply about language and math.
ela doesnt cover the entirety of communication
i am aware that there are other ways to communicate, but language is extremely useful to communicate.

Math is most useful because A) most important things like shopping and doing taxes require math
and ELA... uh... idk its just grammar and stuff like that
like, when will we ever have to wright an essay in the real world on why a character in a book was sad for 1 second

without language, there would be no communication. you can't do anything without communication, speaking, and reading.
No I just mean the useless parts like essays and such
well i could pick out the useless things about math, like calculus and geometry
All things have uselessness, it's just how much of it you decide to see that partially determines how much you might like something
but this is about what is more useful in life, not about what we like. but that's true.
BOTH SUCK BUT I CHOOSE THE MATH FROM HELL.
Both good but I choose math.
Math is for analyzing a problem and language is for communicating the analysis. But of course, there are non-quantitative analyses available, whereas there are far fewer non-linguistic means of communication (taking language in a broad sense to include sign language and morse code etc.). Therefore, language is more universally useful.

but language is used day-to-day. you dont just automatically know how to read this comment. you have to speak to actually communicate
Cha cha real smooth mate.
But all the same, language is important. You use it in your really early years, like learning how to read. If you didn't use that, then reading is pointless.

both are good, but you need math to be a functioning member of society
Yes thats true, however without language you cant communicate, which means your status as a functioning member of society is immediately turned to poof
[deleted]
you need language too.
Mate, sure you not BBH?

bOtH aRe gOod.
Depends on your objectives though, if you are heading into a trade like construction or plumbing or electrical engineering then basic maths is more important. If you are heading into an office environment, or things like media and arts for example, English may be more useful. If you are heading into any kind of development, technological, or scientific field, ie something where brain power is required, you will need both.
Being in my mid 30s I can tell you I used to hate boring lessons as much any kid and I used to think how is any of this stuff useful... Now I am developing websites and databases for limited businesses and corporate entities, and I assure you if it wasn't for both English and math, or "maths" as we call it here, then I wouldn't be a programmer.
It might seem lame now, but stick with it, it's all going to help you get further in life. In a blink of an eye you will be all grown up wishing you had pushed just that little bit harder, and that maybe those boring lessons were a good idea, even if it is calculating the circumference of a circle or analysing poetry. You might never do those things ever again in your life, but by having done them you have expanded your awareness and improved your cognitive abilities which will help survive in adult life, where you will quickly learn and improve upon the skills you do need.

math is kinda boring if you ask me, but we still need it.
Just wait until you get something like this:
Certainly isnt boring, but other side effects may occur (like suicidal thoughts)

Jesus Christ- my teachers have not given me that yet-
You won't get this until something like uni.
But at least this kind of maths probably isn't as boring as the one they complain about
