What is the best decade of music?
Hi,
My Parisian Mom and I get into frequent discussions about what is the best music decade. She likes mostly 60s and 80s French and American songs and classic 40s and 50s Rock n Roll. I prefer now. So I was wondering what do you guys think, what is your favorite music decade?

imo in terms of having singing older songs but if its a "best of all" time then imo there isnt any best times
in the context of "best music" the term can have multiple meanings depending on what kind of best and what kind of music (does it need lyrics? can it be a game/show/movie?)
in terms of every song though i prefer songs that essentially have proper context and intent to it, whether it has lyrics or not, could be a song like Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds or Viva La Vida, it could be songs like Miphas theme or Here We Are, could be an intro like from Stranger Things or Quantum Leap
this is also somewhat biased by the fact that some radios repeat a song multiple times a day while others are played less than once a week or even month just because of it being either by someone more known or that someone is overly sensitive and gets offended by almost everything so they attempt to censor what doesnt need it, like not playing the first song i mentioned because of the acronym that it makes if you use the letters i capitalized
though do to people making songs similar to eachother in more recent times due to the fact that theyve found out what their intended audience likes or dislikes older songs tend to be more different imo so listening to 100 random songs from each set of 10 years youve given itll probably be 20, 50, 60, 70 and 80 being better times on average however in terms of which has the best worst songs and which had the worst best songs and whatever itd probably be the more recent songs as recording quality is probably better and doesnt melt by being in the sun for 10 minutes and can have longer songs
overall ill still go with that there isnt really a best time other than 30 and 40 probably being not as good considering that people at war and the great depression would probably make it harder to make music but... that and someone who was literally deaf made songs better than people now who arent deaf and probably have alot better ways to record things

essentially there is no specific best time imo but if you want to read what i typed open the spoiler
Depends on the genres of music you like. I mean, some genres of music didn't even come around until the late 90's, or even the 2000's. In the music genres I enjoy, the new stuff just keeps getting better!
This year's been a good year for metal.

Really, didn't think teens listened to the 60s.
Keep this alive!
I like 80s, 90s, and 2000s music, I don't care for modern music.
Just keeping this alive!
Now, because Gojira is a-ma-zing currently and I live for that. 😂
Pop-music wise I'd choose a different decade for sure, though. 😁

The 60s till 90s. Even now there are a few great albums.
I love to listen to how blues evolved to heavy metal and how all my favorite singers got their groups.

I think for the UK at least, the 1990s was probably the best (largely down to the surge of Britpop and the battle of the bands (Oasis and Blur from 1994 onwards). Music worldwide I'd say probably peaked around the early 2000s so possibly up to 2005 at a push, but since then the music put out has largely been bland with no meaning behind it. The lyrics and themes of some songs nowadays could easily be seen as inappropriate, but prior to the mid 2000s you had songs coming out by various artists that had a true meaning behind them as well as songs you could relate to in that sense
Now, why you ask? Well now we can listen to all the music made back at every time before!
Hmm... Just wondering whats more popular.
i prefer none
half of the music i listen to is in mongolian but the band i listen to released from 1997-2007 so i guess 90s and 2000s
but i also listen to vaporwave-style music from the mid-2010s
and national anthems of countries in asia that range from like 1890s-1950s so that too
if i HAD to choose a set decade though i'd choose 90s. 90s pop has some good bops in there
i feel like the 2010s get too much hate as well, there's some decent music (even the popular stuff) it just depends on what you like. just because you hate modern rap or pop doesnt mean the whole decade's music is bad

Despite the fact the 80s had a lot of hits, the late 90s and early 2000s is where music changed drastically. It was people trying out the new technology available to change their sound and what not. That time era is my favorite. It had amazing albums like Songs about Jane by Maroon 5. Plus, Alternative Rock was also becoming more popular, rising popularity of bands like Blur or Gorillaz.
Modern day, music really relies on its instrumentals. The voice really isn't as dependent anymore, that's fine. That's okay.
But I think that late 90s through early 2000s were the best times.

in all honesty, the only 'now' music i really like is aurora's songs. click for my favourite song by her, click for my second favourite.

Wow, that song is really old!
i was thinking of the nutcracker, but yeah, mozart made some neat tunes
Forgot about the Nutcracker.
To me, 80s, 90s, and 2000s music are the best tunes in existence. They actually seem like they give a darn when making songs, even when they seem a teensy bit corporate and/or autotuned. Seriously! Listen to this 80s song and you'll see what I mean. Nowadays, music, particularly the pop genre, sounds like their artists had to get transformed into literal chickens to get themselves into the business and/or recorded themselves at 5am in the morning just to autotune it and call it a day. However, EDM is something from this generation that I think is good, if not great, since it sends you on a rollercoaster of awesomeness.
Honestly I'd have to pick a mix of the 2000s and the 20s^^ I love jazz music.... But I also really like the kind of music that came out in the 2000s. But there's also such good music coming out now... oh man I'm awful at picking things;;;
More recent music I adore is persona 5's soundtrack!! A mix of jazz and I feel like maybe rock??? I'm not too good with genres, but I love it so much!

I'm not as obsessed with music as most people seem to be, But I'll say Minecraft's music is one reason I like the game so much.
Am I the only one who isn't crazy for Minecraft's music?
There's like only one track I actually go crazy over, and it's an unused one. I mean I kinda like the nether tracks in how they emphasize how alone you are and the desolate nature of the nether. But other than that, no.
probably. it's way better than fortnite's music, and that's what the poor kiddos have to hear these days...
Same here!
2000's. Eminem's Rap God won me over.
Other: Jack Stauber
Never heard of him.
He's a very unique artist that uses his voice as an instrument (and no, we're not talking Accapella) and doesn't sing a bajillion songs about love.
This is one of his that explains what I mean the besT:

Ok, thanks. I'll check it out.
The Avatar chooses now, because of TryHardNinja, Taylor Swift, Blacklite District, Amelia Marder, Katy Perry, and countless other artists.
Honestly, it's hard to choose, I'm stuck between the 2000s, or the 90's.
This is a really good question. Music today is not as restrictive as it was in later years. There is so much to choose from.
I agree!
