Ultimate Survival is my attempt to make survival Minecraft more difficult by adding a ton of new mechanics, but without the new challenges being completely unfair. This data pack adds a ton of new content to the game, from advancements to gameplay.

Each feature is toggleable in the "<Your Map Name>/datapacks/Ultimate Survival/data/ts/functions/properties.mcfunction":
  • Temperature
  • Hydration
  • Sanity / Sleep requirements
  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Crippling
  • More realistic hunting/meat harvesting
  • Gore effects

Temperature

Your temperature rests at around 37°C, and will change in different biomes, dimensions, and various conditions.

When in hot biomes (such as deserts) your temperature will increase more than in biomes such as plains. When in hot biomes you're able to wear a leather helmet to act like a hat, which will usually prevent you from getting too hot. Wearing full leather in hot biomes is not a good idea.

When in cold biomes (such as Snowy Tundra) your temperature will decrease more. When in cold biomes you can wear full leather to maintain your warmth.

There are also stews and drinks to manage your temperature.

If you get too cold (less than 28°C) you will start to freeze to death. And if you get too warm (above 42°C) you'll start to suffer of heat stroke.

Nearby Heat Sources

When enabled, standing nearby sources of warmth increase you temperature, except when in the Nether.
These sources include:
  • Fires
  • Campfires
  • Lit furnaces, blast furnaces, and smokers
  • Lava and lava cauldrons
  • More can be added in the future

Hydration

Your hydration starts at 100% and decreases over time, and more so when you run. Once you hydration drops to around 5%, you'll start to die of dehydration. Various foods can also increase hydration as well as drinks. Berries, stews, etc, will provide hydration.

There are also 5 new Stews, try to craft them all (album with the recipes, this does not include the secret Stew recipe)!

Iced Water

Iced Water will decrease your temperature when drank.

Hot Chocolate

Hot Chocolate will increase your temperature when drank.

Alcohol

Alcohol will increase your temperature when drank. Effects of drinking alcohol takes a bit to kick in. Be care not to drink too much!

Warm Cider

Warm Cider will increase your temperature when drank.

Cactus Water

Cactus Water will increase your hydration more when drank than normal beverages.

Sanity / Sleeping Requirements

With this data pack, you have to manage your sanity to avoid auditory hallucinations. Sanity starts at 100% and various things can decrease your sanity, such as being in the dark for too long, spending time in the nether, not sleeping, and so on. There's also some ways to increase your sanity, such as holding flowers in your main hand, eating sweets, and sleeping.

If you go too long without sleeping, you'll start to feel tired. So keep a healthy sleeping schedule to avoid tiredness.

Bleeding

Getting hit with arrows, explosions, and other ways will cause bleeding damage. If you have too much bleeding damage built up you will start to bleed out. You can't see your bleeding amount, but if you suspect you're bleeding you can use Bandages to stop the bleeding a bit. When you're bleeding out, avoid swimming/standing in water as it causes infection! Several types of damage cause bleeding, so if you think it would cause bleeding, it probably does.

Bandages

Bandages can be crafted with 3 Paper in a straight line, and are used by switching them to your offhand. Placing them in your offhand will not trigger it, you have to use the swap button (it's 'F' by default).

Infection

Infection builds up when getting hit by zombies, stung by bees, poison arrows, etc. Infection will no go away on its own, so you need "Medicinal Herbs" to get rid of infection. Or, using the same trick that cures zombie villagers can be used on you to cure your infection (this only works when fully infected).

Medicinal Herbs

Medicinal Herbs are obtained from breaking fern blocks. So if you find ferns (and large ferns) break them to get some herbs!

Crippling

When taking excessive amounts of fall damage can cause you to hurt your ankles/legs. Avoid taking large amounts of fall damage! If you find yourself crippled, either sleep in a bed or wait for the symptoms to go away.

Splint

Splints can be crafted, and will heal crippling.

Hunting

Gather meat from mobs is a bit more hands on, killing them won't be enough to give you their meat. After killing a mob, drops like leather and wool will drop, but to gather the meat you must "harvest" it from the mob's corpse. Depending on the size of the mob, it takes more hits to harvest meat, and killing or harvesting the mob with fire will result in the meat being cooked, just like in vanilla.

This change applies to the following mobs:
  • Chickens
  • Cows
  • Hoglins
  • Mooshroom
  • Pigs
  • Rabbits
  • Sheep
  • Zoglins
This can be completely disabled if you want, in the properties.mcfunction file.

Gore

When enabled, hitting mobs and harvesting meat has gore effects. When disabled you won't see any gore, however sound effects will remain.

Drying Racks

When Rotten Flesh is placed on the rack, depending on the biome it will turn into "Dried Flesh" after a specific length of time:
  • When in a hot biome: 30 seconds
  • When in a cold biome: 1 minute 20 seconds
  • When in neither: 1 minute
Drying Racks will not work when uncovered in the rain; if there's rain falling on your drying rack, it will not dry meat.

Drying Rack Recipe

You can use any planks.

Extra Stuff

There are new recipes for Wooden/Stone tools. Here is a link to the recipe image album (replace the stone with wood for wooden tools, duh). To get strings early game, you can either fight spiders or get grass from breaking tall grass and making it into twine. You can make twine with 2 tall grass on top of each other in the crafting table.

There's also Apple Pie, which uses the same recipe as Pumpkin Pie, but with an apple instead of a pumpkin.

You can also make the Dragon Egg into an omelette.

There is also a new recipe for furnaces, there's also changes to the campfire recipe so you no longer need coal to make it.

New Furnace Recipes

Furnace

Smoker

Blast Furnace

This data pack also disables viewing coordinates because the data pack also makes compasses and clocks more useful. When holding a compass it tells you your facing direction and coordinates (but if you're in the nether and hold sneak, it will tell you where your portal was). Clocks tell you the current time, whether you can sleep or not, and displays the current day number.

The spyglass now displays the name and distance to the mob you're looking at, but not when too far away.

is it possible for someone to make a version of this exact pack without the crafting recipes and the "hunting" features?

Could you make a separate datapack for torches burning out? So, people can enable if they want.

Ok so, I tried to use this in the newest version and it did not work- as soon as I loaded the game, it started to spawn books and water bottles nonstop, literally had to delete +900 items and it only stopped when I disabled the datapack. I dont know why this happened, was really excited to use this! Hope its something fixable on my end?

100% I would run with this. I like the ideas that it provides. I do not like the changes to the tool recipes. Starting in an area without a way to get string early makes it not very fun. everything else is great and I love the concepts. it just bothers me that I can turn off only the things that I want to experience, while I'm stuck with the ones I don't.

You know that from puching grass there is a 25 % chance you get grass back and with 2 grass (the same way as you maken sticks) you can get twine (string)

Thats how you can get early game string

But it wouldn't be fun, I don't think anyone enjoys having to relight torches.
