A simple datapack that allows to store beacons and their layers inside of shulker boxes. You can then easily move them around and place them back into the world. The datapack is designed in a way that it can't be used for exploits. You can't mine blocks with it or replace bedrock.
Why would you want this? Because moving a beacon can be a pain depending on the blocks you use (netherite for example). And without Haste (II), it is even slower.

The uploaded version now displays the number of layers the beacon had instead of the random name in the tooltip!

The download link will always provide the newest version
available (currently for 1.16+). If you want to download older versions,
please visit the GitHub page and download the datapack from there.

Works with 1.16.x (tested). I don't see any particular reason why this shouldn't work with the 20w46a snapshot as well. Just use the same zip file. If you get a warning message that the datapack version is older, just ignore it.
It probably works with older versions as well, though I haven't tested it myself.

If the beacon shulker box is placed in a way that would need bedrock to be replaced, the blocks that the beacon is made out of in those spots get lost!!! Keep this in mind.

I am open to change the above behavior to instead drop the blocks or leave them inside the shulker box (if enough people want it).

If you like my work and want to support me, consider buying me a coffee!

- fixed a bug where normal shulker boxes with an item in the center (slot 13) were treated like a beacon shulkers, making them delete their content once placed.

so it happened again with no blocks in the shulker. i have a video recapturing what happened in the dropbox that has my world save folder. I couldn't find the player.dat file you were talking about so I hope the entire world folder with that data in it would be helpful! Some of the .mca files arent able to be uploaded to dropbox I guess so I hope you don't need those. I am using other data packs that are in the world folder (named 'Data') but no items from them were in the shulker. Here is the link: www.dropbox.com/sh/r60szxkcr8668au/AABU1Cn5IEmusQFulFzCw72da?dl=0

I think I've found the issue. It happened with any block if it was in slot 13 (the centered one). The pack would just assume it was a beacon shulker then, as I needed that slot to store the type of blocks each layer had. It has been fixed and I published a new pre-release on GitHub. If you click here, it will bring you straight to the pre-release section. Just download that zip file (direct download) and let me know if it still happens!

I didn't play test that much, but I definitely forgot to check this specific scenario. Huge thanks for letting me know. Loosing items because of a bug is really bad!

This has been fixed in v1.0.5

haha OMG. let me check something real quick. If you're OK with it, can you join the MC datapack discord server? It's easier to figure it out when we can write more reliably. The invite link is inside the green banner at the bottom right :) Just DM once you're in, my name's SirWindfield on the server

So Im using shulker boxes to just store items in my inventory and sometimes when I place it down, it removes all of the items in it and places a beacon underneath, like it was a beacon shulker (?).

Does the shulker box have a tooltip that says `Layers x2` or something similar? It would be really useful if you could upload and share your `player.dat` file that you can find inside your world save. That file contains your inventory data. You can use services like Dropbox or Mega for file sharing. Just put the link here in the comments.

So it only happens when there are blocks of resources in the box, like blocks of redstone and lapis, which is odd because beacons cant be made of that. Also there is no tooltip with the layers text. I tried recreating my issue but it no longer happens, ill for sure drop another comment if it does

Thanks! Although you can do really crazy stuff with them, I mostly see them in a way to expand on the Vanilla gameplay aspect. If I'd want to alter my gameplay in any significant way, I'd say mods are the way to go!

What do you have in mind? Like moving your base for example?
