201
I just wanted to share some of my thoughts on my favorite weapon of choice for making skins and textures for MineCraft. It's Paint.NET and here's my short (only 10 points) list why I like it:
It's Free!
What can greater than free and quality software?
Simple work with layers
Creating, merging, deleting and shuffling layers is fast, simple and reliable.
Custom palettes
Want to download a palette and use it in your project? No problem. Creating your own is also very easy, especially if you're making a project that needs consistent colors.
Plugins
Easy to install, easy to use!
Plugins!
Let me get this straight: the software is fully usable without them, but some are very helpful when making texture packs or working on skins.
It's fast
It's fast, because it's simple. Even a slow laptop is capable of running it and giving you satisfying and comfortable work. If you've got a fast computer it works almost instantaneously.
Unlimited history!
Many paid and high class software has severe limitations in this particular case. Even if you decide that your last hour work is worthless and you want to go back a hundred or more steps back it's no big deal.
Alpha layer
Works like a charm!
Giving your work some character
Choosing a color and selecting its transparency is just a click away. Realistic blood stains on a skin? Giving a special tint to a block? Details? Done.
Flexible selection tools
Already selected something? Ctrl to add a new area, Alt to remove if you've overdone it.
If you've made it to this point let me explain one thing: I do not glorify this piece of software - i understand its limits. It took me some time to get use to the selection tools and the way to move the selection itself around (even today I find it somehow counterintuitive). The workspace is sometimes cluttered by little windows that can't be docked as a toolbar (like in Corel's Photopaint), but overall it's a solid and powerful piece of software that I've chosen to be my WEAPON OF CHOCIE in my MineCraft quest for creativity.
What are your "weapons of choice" and why?
Don't be shy and tell us all about them.

Also, GG on the choice. That was my favorite painting program until I found Photoshop. I never bought it of course, but I'm using CS5 :)
