For this april fools we got a very interesting Poisonous Potato Update which adds a dimension with retextured mobs, many new blocks and cool new biomes. This update also has Lashing Potato - an item that serves as grappling hook. It also adds a new boss that summons mobs and you need to kill them to be able to damage the boss. The update also has some interesting blocks like frying table and it has amber. Maybe we will get some stuff like that for minecraft outside of april fools update.
