Because the elytra don't actually allow you to fly it instead is making you able to glide because elytra actually do exist in real life, and you find bugs like beetles with an elytra on them and the beetles don't use the elytra to fly and instead use it to protect their wings from being damaged by the wind so that the elytra could be from the ender mites because the ender mites that exist in the main game are probably still a baby and not an adult because ender mites could have wings when they shed making ender mites similar to a butterfly so ender mites probably have wings when they grow up and the elytra that we use to glide because the elytra only goes down and you half to use fireworks to make it grow up so the elytra is probably big enough for you to glide with.
