A lot of the time when I see an illager skin it looks like someone just replaced all the skin with grey and added no detail so it looks bad and nothing like an illager, that's because they don't know how to use clone mode. Clone mode allows you to copy the pixels from skins and paste them wherever you want. So you can use clone mode to copy an illager's skin and paste it on your own skin.
