I kinda got the idea to talk about my "illness" or "sickness" from Karma. Its actually a good idea to do stuff like this because it informs people, and lets others dealing with this know theyre not alone.
What Is Iron Deficancy Anemia:
"Iron deficiency anemia is a common type of anemia — a condition in which blood lacks adequate healthy red blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen to the body's tissues.
As the name implies, iron deficiency anemia is due to insufficient iron. Without enough iron, your body can't produce enough of a substance in red blood cells that enables them to carry oxygen (hemoglobin). As a result, iron deficiency anemia may leave you tired and short of breath.
You can usually correct iron deficiency anemia with iron supplementation. Sometimes additional tests or treatments for iron deficiency anemia are necessary, especially if your doctor suspects that you're bleeding internally."-Mayo Clinic.
My Experiences With It:
Basically every morning before I knew about this sickness, I had ZERO energy. Every morning I would wake up and say "I feel like today I'm going to die." Slightly dramatic, but that just is how I felt. I was so weak, so tired, I couldnt walk up the steps of my house without hurting. I had constant chest pain, I couldnt breathe. It truly sucked. And it still does.
Just a couple of months ago, I was sent to the hospital because I was on the brink of having almost 0 hemaglobin in my blood. Which means, if the blood tests I had been having hadn't been ran, my organs would have began shutting down. Kinda gruesom to think about but its true.
Every two weeks or so, I have to go to the hospital and get blood work done, then the next day and get a blood transfusion.
Generally anemia is solved quickly, with in a couple of transfusions and some Iron Pills, but not mine. My doctor has littlerally told me: We have NO idea what is wrong with you. Which is unsettling.
It honestly broke my heart when I heard they have no clue what is wrong, which means I'll probably have to go to the hospital every two weeks just for one pint of blood. And that might not sound horrible, but there is a chance of an allergic reaction to the blood, which I have had three times now.
When you have a reaction to the blood, they instantly have to yank everything out of your arm. I.V port and all. It's probably one of the most painful things ever.
One case, they decided to move my IV port into my forearm, and they actually ruptured my vein. Which sucked because they had to put a stent in it to keep it up. And removing it was t horrible because I was on morphine.
Others Reactions:
So there is a homophobic stereotype that any one who is gay has cancer or aids. I am not immune to those accusations. When I was talking to my friends about my hospital problems, a couple of jerks over heard.
They butted into my conversation and said as loud as possible," Wanna know why you're ill? Huh? BECAUSE YOUR A DISGUSTING GAY!" He blurted. I couldn't do anything. And I didn't have the strength to fight against him because I was 1. In pain and 2. I just couldn't say anything to someone who treated me like that. It wouldn't do me any good.
What I've noticed:
When I was diagnosed with Anemia, they tested a lot of stuff. My heart ,my lungs, arteries, stomach, etcetera. But they also check your blood a lot afterwards. In the process of all these tests and lab work they found I had Von Willebrans Disease which is basically a clotting disorder. So if I get a cut, the cut will take a lot longer to clot then usual because my platelets can't stick together.
They also found one of my arteries, had begun to swell. Which is a bad thing.(duh) Basically to fix it they will thread a balloon and wire through my wrist, and go up to the artery, and when they reach it they are going to inflate the tiny balloon and it's going to widen the artery so blood can flow through it. They'll remove the balloon and put in a little tiny stent to keep it apart. They think my anemia will be fixed after this, but honestly a blocked artery shouldn't cause my anemia. I have other theories as to why I'm so anemic, and some other females might know why as well.
I say that because a large proportion of females in the 12-16 age range are more likely to have anemia. For... Reasons .-.
SO YEAH if I feel to add anything else I will :)
