After a very long break from building ships i return with something new and exiting! i hope you enjoy :)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The S.S Dortmund was the first commercially successful ship of the W.U.R.S.T LINE
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She was built at the end of the 1890s in the Free State of Friedrichsburg on behalf of the W.U.R.S.T LINE
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Dortmund was the first ship of the Ruhrpott-class, an experimental ship class that was intended to sail on many different routes but primarily act as a workhorse for the shipping company
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Dortmund was intended to establish the new Friedrichsburg-Istanbul route, which extended to the entire Mediterranean area
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since the Free State of Friedrichsburg was able to establish several outposts in Northern Africa in its tiny colonial empire, interest in further expanding this route grew
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Dortmund could hardly be distinguished from other ships at the time, but a big difference was the luxurious and comfortable cabins for the passengers
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In 1914, when the First World War broke out, the Dortmund was in Istanbul, where it survived the war unscathed in the harbor but was confiscated
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the war, an attempt was made to bring the Dortmund back to Friedrichsburg, but due to the chaos of the Turkish War of Independence, this did not happen for the time being
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since the W.U.R.S.T LINE was facing insolvency after the war, it was offered to sell the Dortmund to a Turkish shipping company, which is what happened afterwards
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Dortmund was still in service under the name of "Yeni Izmir" until 1929 and was able to make a few successful trips and was temporarily used in the Black Sea
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In 1929, when the former Dortmund had just left Istanbul, there was a terrible coal fire that burned out the entire ship, which caused many casualties among passengers and crew
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When the W.U.R.S.T LINE was informed about the accident, they hid the fact that the ship was the former Dortmund so that it could not be traced back to them
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The exact causes have not yet been clarified!
