So a while back I homebrewed a piglin race for D&D 5e. I eventually hope to make a "sourcebook" based on the Nether.

(NOTE: The spacing is a bit weird as I copied and pasted from my original document. Not much I can do about it.)

Piglin

Lore & Culture

Though it is as far unknown how Piglins came to be, they are spread far across a strange land known as the “Nether”. While this region is mostly unknown among most races, camps of these human-pig hybrids often linger around strange rectangular frames made of obsidian.

NOTE: Piglins in the D&D world have consumed a potion that allows them to stay in the surface world without zombifying.

The culture of piglins revolves around two things: Gold and the hunt. Piglins will carry golden weapons and trinkets on their person, and more flamboyant piglins are known to coat their tusks in gold. Prosthetics are also commonly made with gold elements, and deep wounds are even filled with molten gold. Piglins in the Nether often hunt the elusive “hoglin”, but in our realm will settle for pigs, boars, or anything else with a lot of fat on it.

Piglins almost never live in villages, instead travelling in hunting camps or caravans, or building large forts known as bastions, which will then become a sort of communal home for the tribe, adorned with banners and the skulls of their enemies, such as great beasts or rival tribes.

Piglins will communicate in a language known as Piglish, which to many is indistinguishable from the sounds of a regular pig. Piglins will speak Common or other languages when necessary to communicate, but when speaking to others of their kind, they will use Piglish.

Male Piglins will grow longer, more impressive tusks, and on rare occasions fairly impressive mustaches. Females are known to be very tall compared to their male counterparts. Tails are uncommon among Piglins, but will show up every now and then.

Piglin Traits

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2 and your Strength score increases by 1.

Age. Piglins can live to be about 80 but usually fall in battle beforehand

Alignment. Piglins can be of any alignment but usually veer toward the chaotic side of things.

Size. Piglins are typically 6-7 ft. tall and weight around 160 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30.

Piglin Weapon Training. You have proficiency with shortswords and all crossbows.

Gold Obsession. You have advantage on attack rolls against enemies visibly wearing gold. You also have advantage on attack rolls made with gold weapons and rolls made to make things out of gold.

Scrappy. Your time spent in the hellscape of the Nether has given you expert survival skills. You gain proficiency in Survival.

Subrace. Choose one of the following subraces.

Subrace: Brute

Some piglins will grow up stronger, tougher, and plain nastier than others. These individuals will undergo stressful training to become Brutes, strong warriors who protect their families and treasures of the tribe.

Brutish Build. Your Strength score increases by 1.

Increased Weapon Training. You gain proficiency with the handaxe, greataxe, and battleaxe.

Intimidating Visage. You have advantage on Charisma (Intimidation) checks.

Brute Resilience. When you are reduced to 0 Hit Points but not killed outright, you can drop to 1 hit point instead. You can’t use this feature again until you finish a long rest.

Subrace: Lavatrotter

Some Piglins that settle in basalt deltas will get accustomed to intense heat, even going as far as to dance with death in magma and flame. Lavatrotters are expert riders and are usually employed as scouts for piglin warbands.

Hard-Earned Agility. Your Dexterity score increases by 1.

(Almost) Flameproof. You have resistance to fire damage. In addition, you can stay half-submerged in lava or magma for a number of minutes equal to 1+ your Constitution modifier. (minimum 30 seconds).

Strider Rider. You gain proficiency in Animal Handling, and have advantage on checks made to keep control of mounts, learned from your years of wrangling and riding wild striders.

Burning Wounds. Some healed-over wounds from burning yourself are still warm. When making a critical hit during a melee attack, add 1d4 fire damage to your attack.

Subrace: Fungi Piglin

Extended periods of time spent in the Nether’s fungi forest can cause strange effects on some piglins. Characterized by the red or blue mushrooms coming out of their shoulders and matching eye color, Fungi Piglins, or “funglins”, can be formidable foes on the battlefield.

Fungi Effects. Your Constitution score increases by 1.

Questionable Meal. The mushrooms growing on your shoulders can be picked and eaten. Those who eat them must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw, gaining 1d6 temporary hit points on a success and taking 1d6 poison damage on a failure. You can only have 6 mushrooms at one time, and they grow back after 1d4 days.

Poison Resistance. Due to having the toxins of Nether fungus mixed into your bloodstream for long periods of time, you have resistance to all poison damage.

Piglin Zombification

When your piglin character is killed outside of the Nether or another hellish dimension, roll a d20. If you roll higher than 10, you succumb to the unnatural atmosphere of the surface world and transform into a zombie piglin. Then roll another d20. If you roll under 10, you become an NPC under the DM’s control. If not, you retain your mind through the zombification. This transformation affects your character in the following ways:

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2, to a maximum of 20.

Alignment. Your alignment changes to Chaotic Neutral.

Speed. Your speed increases to 40.

Undead Fortitude. If damage reduces the you to 0 Hit Points, you must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC of 5+the damage taken, unless the damage is radiant or from a critical hit. On a success, you drop to 1 hit point instead.

Reversing the Transformation

This effect can be reversed by powerful magic such as True Resurrection. Be aware that your piglin will have to consume the Potion of Surface Life again, or else they may become a zombie piglin again afterwards.

Soon, I'll expand the lore and maybe make Piglin gods.
