that's the issue, optifabric does cost me a chunk of performance whereas using a mod like fabric skyboxes which is included in the fabulously optimized modpack is a lot better for many users like myself.

yeah, but unfortunately custom sky box arnt a Minecraft default feature. that's why it's necessary to use Optifine

FabricSkyboxes is a mod that adds custom sky configurability to resource packs, pretty much the same way as Optifine.
