Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls (MWGG or MWatGG for short) is an original concept created by Lauren Faust. It is inspired by 90's Strawberry Shortcake, except the characters are different types of girls, supposedly being the personifications of planets.
There was also going to be an animated series pitched to Hasbro, where its pilot would be about Milky Way accidentally freeing the Black Hole from a planetoid while she was exploring the solar system, and meets each Galaxy Girl, to use their special talents for defeating Black Hole. Unfortunately, Hasbro disagreed with the concept. It later became the more famous television show called My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
As of 2021, the Galaxy Girls have been revived and all have new designs shown on Twitter.
Who are the characters?
Milky Way - The leader and protagonist. She seeks fun and adventure, but can get a little too carried away.
The Sun - A literal "star". She likes to sing and perform, and dreams to be the center of the universe.
Mercury - An athlete who dreams of being reigning champ of the galaxy. She skates at the speed of light.
Venus - A ballet dancer. She is sophisticated and loves all femininity.
The Moon - A poet. Her mood swings are unpredictable, and so is her talent.
Mars - A goofy artist. She might be the weirdest, but she's the most creative!
Ceres - Pluto's bassist. She has no feelings and thinks she's better than others.
Jupiter - An animal caretaker. She brings peace to the girlaxy, and is willing to help the environment.
Saturn - A disc jockey. She's full of energy and runs her own dance club.
Uranus - The nerd. She spends her time reading and learning, while looking for a good future.
Neptune - Uranus' clumsy sister. She is the practical opposite of her, and enjoys playing in the water.
Pluto - A gothic Rockstar. While hotheaded, she is truly loyal to her friends and sticks by their side.
Eris - Pluto's drummer. Far more hotheaded than Pluto, it's best not to come into contact with her.
