Ever felt like the moon could use some debth?
Ever wondered what it might be like if the sun was a block?

Well here you go! Isometric Sun & Moon Cubes!

While it is very different from the standard pixelart sun and moon, I think the artstyle is retained with this solution while at the same time making them feel a little more physical

I made the moon using a real map of the real moon, which I projected onto a cube using NASAs "G.Projector" and then I downsampled that to a set of 16x16 sides with a limited palette and a colorshceme that stays true to the original minecraft moon.

The sun doesn't have as interesting of a story behind it, I just did one side texture the way you normally would and used the same colorpalette as the default sun, all of this gets blown out into pure white ingame however, and you can really only see that detail during the sunset/sunrise.

Ingame, the sun renders about a third larger than the moon despite their sprites being the same size, in reality however the two do appear the same size in the sky (they are wildly different actual sizes of course but one is a lot closer) so I compensated for that in the texture and the two now appear the same size ingame, neat!

About the resolution, the texture is 16 times higher resolution than the default texture (the equivalent of a 256x256 pack), but the "block" itself is 16x16, with the extra resolution being used to convay the block in an isometric projection. So while this is technically high resolution it is made to fit in the context of 16x16 textures

Lastly, no, I'm sorry, you cannot mine the moon block, you will never reach it, it is too far away, you will just have to admire it from afar.
And please be safe, don't look directly into the sun, the real one I mean, in minecraft its probably fine, go right ahead.

Enjoy!
