Zeno, or Zenon (Ζήνων), was a Byzantine and Eastern Roman emperor of the 5th century. Western Rome fell during his reign and he himself faced some revolts and dissent. After the fall, Zeno was proclaimed ruler of Italy under the theoretical circumstance that it returns to Roman ownership. Zeno wrote the Henotikon which tried to reconcile Monophysitism with Dyophysitism. It was incredibly unpopular and led to the Acacian Schism in which Pope Felix III condemned Patriarch Akakios of Konstantinoupolis.
