It has been a while since I’ve built anything worthwhile, and this is a bit smaller perhaps than other projects I’ve uploaded, but thought I’d post it anyway. I was inspired by a village fairly local to me which has a well-preserved 16th Century (possibly older) Wool Market and several other well-preserved buildings and cottages.

All the buildings in this scene are based on buildings found along Horndon’s High street, and the scene is set during the beginning of the 20th century, circa. 1910.

Starting with the building on the left and moving from left to right: The first building on the far left is a half-timbered building based on a C. 15th Century Grade 2 listed House and Shop named “The Stores” (https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1111601).

Second from the left is the ‘Bell’ Freehouse, a pub based on a Grade 2 listed building known as ‘Woolmarket Cottage’ featuring a 19th century façade and a suspected 16th century (possibly earlier) rear-wing (https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1111600). My re-imagining of the building includes a small outside drinking area.

Centre place is the ‘Woolmarket’, an old Market Hall built sometime between the 14th- early 16th century. With the decline of the wool trade by the late 16th century, the Hall became used for other purposes, namely charity, and from c. 1685 until the 20th century it was used as a home for poor residents of the Parish. After suffering from decades of neglect and decline, a restoration project was undertaken by the local council in the late 1960s and 1970s. Since then it has functioned as a communal space for the village. (sources: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1111599, and https://www.thurrock.gov.uk/historical-places-in-thurrock/horndon-woolmarket).

On the far right is a terrace of timber-framed and weatherboarded cottages based on ‘Halls Row’, a Grade 2 listed terrace built in the 17th or 18th century (https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1111598)

Texture Pack and Shaders:

I have used a version of WBC Builds’ new 1.3.2 texture pack with granite and grass textures found in one of WBC’s previous packs. I have also used a slightly edited version of Vanilla Tweaks’ ‘Bushy leaves’ resource pack.

The Shaders used are BSL 1.16.3.

As this build is part of a testing world and is my own build, downloads and schematics won’t be available for it.

Thanks very much Goblin! I really had a lot of fun building this project (my local Butcher is across the road from the blue half-timbered building, so I've got a bit of a connection to this village)
