Description
The Annoying Lamp is a pub in the north-eastern corner of St Philip Square. It was originally built in 1489 in Tudor style. However, around 1880s, with the rise of Tudor Revival architecture, it was remodelled and repurposed to a pub in the Black-and-white Revival style. The front entrance and ground floor brickwork were added with this remodelling, too.
The name "Annoying Lamp" came from the lamp post that was partially blocking the front entrance when the entrance was extended. There were many complains at first, but the owner decided to keep the iconic lamp post there when the council offers to relocate it.
